A PERFECT BUILD UP IN ROMANCE AND SUSPENSE

COLD FEAR is the fourth book in the Cold Justice series. Though each book is a complete story, there is significant involvement from previous characters and couples. I highly suggest and recommend reading all of these stories and in the order of release.

In a story that could be ripped from the headlines, this suspense romance kept me on my toes. I was continuously changing my guesses as to who did what. I was wrong – LOL.

I loved how the clues were metered out. I love the slow burn and build to steamy passion. This is why Toni Anderson is becoming known as a master of suspense romance.

Narration: Eric G. Dove does a beautiful job of creating this story. His power of suspense had me getting to work or home and wondering how I got there. I’m sure I drove safely, but I was also deeply involved in the tale. That is why I listen to audiobooks! A perfectly executed narration.

Another awesome story in this series. A serial killer is on the loose and with his office being short on available agents Linc Frazier joins the hunt for this psycho. Izzy is an MD who left the Army to take care of her 17 year old sister. When two teenagers are found on the beach Izzy is a first responder. The girl is dead but the boy has a pulse and is rushed to the emergency room. Linc is joined by another agent and the two of them are working with the local law enforcement agency to apprehend the killer. Izzy is drawn into the investigation but she has her own awful secret to hide. The story is full of intrigue and danger and well worth reading.

This is a riveting and chilling addition to the Cold Justice series. Frazier gets a call about a homicide on the Outer Banks, Two teens were attacked. One died, the other is barely clinging to life. But the dead girl was found naked except for a bracelet that wasn't hers. In fact, it belonged to the victim of a serial killer apprehended seventeen years earlier. A man now on death row awaiting execution. Does the convict have a copy cat, or is there a disciple they missed during the investigation? Frazier knows they need answers fast.
Izzy left home after high school and joined the Army, becoming a doctor. When her mother died of cancer Izzy resigned her commission to take care of her seventeen year old sister, Kit. Now picking up shifts at the local hospital, Izzy follows an ambulance to the dunes one morning and finds two victims, one the police chief's son and the other her sister's best friend. At the hospital, the boy is taken in for treatment, but the girl is pronounced DOA. When Izzy returns to the dunes with coffee for the men working the scene, she meets two FBI agents and is volunteered to put them up in the rental cottage next to hers. Izzy knows the dunes hold secrets, some of them hers. She isn't ready for them to come out, but with the FBI involved, if they do, Kit will go to foster care while she goes to prison.

I loved the complexity of the plot. I changed my mind two or three times about who the murderer was and I still got it wrong.
The character development was also very strong and this is true for the side characters as well. There was an emotional depth to this thriller which I find is often missing from the mass produced romantic suspense titles saturating the market. I can't wait to listen to the rest of the series.

I have to say that I found the first few chapters quite sad and emotional. Rape is a sensitive and difficult topic to write about and when it involves the murder of a young girl you can't help but feel shocked and saddened. The friends' and parents' grief was almost tangible in these opening chapters.

I haven't listened to any of Eric G. Dove's other performances but he did an amazing job with this one and if I saw his name on another title in the genres of interest to me then it would help persuade me to buy it.

I bought the kindle copy of this book but I received the audio book at no charge in exchange for an honest review.

So I don't give out five stars to just anyone but I was blown away by this book. I adored the main characters, loved their connection. The mystery aspect was maintained throughout the story until the reveal in the last chapters. It was nice to see a full conclusion to the story too, so many books cut off after the dramatic showdown but this gave you what happened next rounding off the story. I can recommend this book if you like your thrillers with realistic characters and a smidgen of heat then this is the story for you.
