"Superbly crafted stories like these are the reason romantic suspense is my go-to genre." -USA Today

After her mother's death, Army Captain Dr. Isadora Campbell resigned her commission in order to return to the Outer Banks to raise her rebellious teenage sister. But Izzy hides a terrible secret, and it doesn't take long to realize someone knows exactly what she did, all those years ago.
Thrust together during the investigation, Frazer and Izzy find themselves reluctantly drawn to one another. When the truth about Izzy's past emerges, Frazer struggles with her deception. And when the killer strikes again, the race is on to save Izzy from the same terrible fate as all the other dead girls.

The narrator as always did a wonderful outstanding job. There are not any breaks that you can tell just a smooth rich voice plotting the story the author wrote. He hits all the correct tones pulling you in making you believe what is going on. He has wonderful character voice, you have no trouble knowing who and what sex they are. There are no background noises just a smooth reach narration that will keeping you hanging on not wanting to put this book down. I have loved Eric G. Dove from the first book I have ever listened to that he narrated. I always look forward to his narration. He has narrated a few of Ms. Anderson books which I have loved. I always get excited when I see his name and know I am going to totally love the book.
Frazer has always been one of my favorite characters throughout this series. He is strong, alpha, will a wonderful attitude. He is a tough cop who doesn't give up easy and always gets his person. It was nice to see him get his own story. He does however need to deal with his past as the author brings more of it to life in this read you come to understanding him better. Not only does he have his handful with Izzy along with the killer and some teens that are working through their own issues. This is one cop that toes the line all but one time. Even years later he is still dealing with this which will get in his way with Izzy and her secret. Ones past has a way of coming back to bite you on your butt as he will find out when all of Izzy past comes back to haunt her. He is going to have to decide if love can out weather the fall out when the past comes knocking.
Izzy has been haunted by her past and it is about to come back in a big way. She walked away years ago but with her mother dying she must come home to help take care of her sister. Teens can be so trying on their best days but her sister is hell-bent on making bad decision. Getting even with the popular girls will be her down fall in many ways the bigs is losing her best friend. As Izzy does her best to help her sister through some very trying times she must also face her past while trying to find out who the killer is and why they have come back after all these years. Danger is all around is there no stopping this killer? What about her new founded relationship with Frazer will he still want her when he finds out her secret?
I was drawn to Ms. Anderson's book from the very first book. She deliveries a bang from the first page that pulls you in and holds you throughout the read. Her stories are very believable with all that is going on in the world it isn't hard to believe this could or has really happened. This series revolves around states and place I know well which is an added bonus for me. This is one author that has done her research well knowing the places this series takes place it is easy for me to know she given great thought to the plot and the place she has built it around. She always keeps you guessing as to who the killer is. You must look deep and give much thought before you can pick him out. I have to say I am always surprised when he is revealed never guessing to who it is. Ms. Anderson is another of my go to authors when I want thrills, adventure and excitement she never lets me down. The sex is hot as two people find their way and could be torn apart when things come out. There are some very heated scenes that will give you hot flashes. She has picked a narrator that goes well with this series. Between the two they make the perfect match to bring you all you come to expect. This book was a little more intents and graphic than most of her stories. It will shock you and keep you turning the pages. I am so looking forward to the next book I can hardly wait. I know it will be as thrilling and exciting as this one has been. If you haven't read anything by this author I highly recommend you do. All of her books have been outstanding but this series has been the best so far. Read this one as a standalone but if you want the full impact of the characters you do not want to miss one book in this series.
I really wanted to read this book because it was about ASAC FBI profiler Lincoln Frazer. I have been slowly making my way through the audiobooks in this series. This character has been in a few of the other books in this series. Frazer has never been given to showing his emotions. In this book, I was never sure if it was because of his job, his past, or a combination of both.
The narration was quite good, and I never had to wonder which character was speaking, whether male or female.
To me, this book was more of a suspense, mystery thriller than a romantic suspense. The romance between Linc and Izzy was a secondary part of the story. There was a bit of chemistry between them, but I was more amazed by what he allowed to happen during the investigation. Granted, at the time, her secret had not been revealed, but Izzy was still technically a civilian.
Not everyone in this book ended up with an HEA, but Linc and Izzy did. There are a couple of other people that I want to read about in this series, so on to the next book.

It was dark, but the night sky clear. Suddenly she became aware of her heartbeat pounding through her ears, deafening in intensity. Distracting as all get out.
Come on, Izzy, where's your backbone? Where's your training? She searched for her courage as she eased down the stairs, caught between wanting to scare whatever it was away, and wanting to catch anyone who was up to no good. Her hands tightened on the grip of her pistol. Finger off the trigger.
At the bottom of the steps, she flicked on the flashlight only to discover she'd made a critical error. The switch clicked uselessly and nothing happened. A frisson of alarm crackled through the air and a wave of gooseflesh swept over her bare arms. The feeling of menace grew as the silence stretched. Thick shadows saturated the space beneath the house and fear lodged in her throat. She shook the flashlight and banged it against her thigh as if that would help. It rattled uselessly.
The next moment her head was slammed into the railing and light burst behind her eyes, cascading along her nerves through her entire body as agony exploded.

Cold Fear, number four in the series, is rife with life-and-death conflict while offering a romance worthy of a long, drawn-out string of sighs. I adored the premise of two self-contained, independent and uber-capable individuals punishing themselves by not allowing love into their lives. For three books now, I've been tantalized by the glacial FBI agent Frazer, and I couldn't wait to see the Big Thaw. (And, hoo boy, was it worth the wait.) Despite keeping secrets too dangerous to share, he and Izzy do manage to get under each other's skin, and it's a joy to watch them discover how rewarding vulnerability can be. Their first scene as lovers is witty, touching, erotic and atmospheric — Anderson ably sets the mood with a beach-at-night backdrop. Their lovemaking provides a welcome contrast to the story's brutal, heartbreaking opening and the violence it sparks.
You'll also be mesmerized by Izzy's relationship with secondary character Kit Campbell, her teenage sister. Their situation is poignant and frustrating, and nicely offset by Kit's relationship with Frazer, which starts out hostile and gradually transforms into something sweet. An extra treat is the chance to catch up with characters from earlier books in the series — more than mere cameos, their appearances are essential to the story.
It's difficult to spin a new angle on a serial killer, but the inventive Anderson manages it with ease, and the villain's identity is a genuine shocker. At this point, Izzy has confessed her secret to Frazer, and it really does seem all is lost — and we're talking more than Izzy's career, freedom, family and love life here — we're talking her life. You can see why I always choose finishing the book over sleeping! Superbly crafted stories like these are the reason romantic suspense is my go-to genre.
Top reviews from other countries

I’m “rereading” the series via the audiobooks, I’ve loved all the books so far, currently listening to the next one in the series and I’m already attached those characters.
Fantastic romantic suspense!

The character development was also very strong and this is true for the side characters as well. There was an emotional depth to this thriller which I find is often missing from the mass produced romantic suspense titles saturating the market. I can't wait to listen to the rest of the series.
I have to say that I found the first few chapters quite sad and emotional. Rape is a sensitive and difficult topic to write about and when it involves the murder of a young girl you can't help but feel shocked and saddened. The friends' and parents' grief was almost tangible in these opening chapters.
I haven't listened to any of Eric G. Dove's other performances but he did an amazing job with this one and if I saw his name on another title in the genres of interest to me then it would help persuade me to buy it.
I bought the kindle copy of this book but I received the audio book at no charge in exchange for an honest review.
