About the author

Hi, I've been living, studying and training in Japan for over 15 years. My goal is to share some of the cool, fascinating and mysterious teachings that can be found in Japanese martial arts manuals. For the most part these books have never been translated before. Thanks for your interest!

This volume contains six translated works, including training, strategy, swordsmanship and techniques from the Tenshin Shinyo Ryu school that influenced Judo, particularly atemi waza striking.
As always, the grab bag has information that lets the reader decide what is useful. Perspective, context, and experience is a determining factor. The Jujutsu techniques depicted are quick and vicious, not part of a highly elaborated dance.
For context and history, the “Jujutsu Textbook” is a gem for training advice, strategy and tactics applicable to numerous pursuits, and moral advice.
Keep in mind, part of the fun of these books is the discovery. Century-old resuscitation techniques need to be examined critically, as the author caveats.
If you aren’t already a Shahan addict do yourself a favor and pick up his “Jujutsu 1913” for a pure manual of techniques.
They are also great for self teaching. (Yes, you CAN learn martial arts just fine from a book, without being a cash cow to Super Grandmaster McDojo)
Definitely worth the money.
I really hope there's a fourth volume in the works.
