Sweet holiday fare

Sweet story line, less formulaic than most Hallmark offerings. A bit of good character acting -- Jack's mom is annoying yet endearing, and has packed on some pounds, like a normal person, she manages to maintain some dignity. Demi's parents are likewise convincing as NY elites. Christine is refreshingly realistic as a dance teacher, unlike so many Hallmark "experts" that just stalk around and nod approvingly at their students. She gets in there and dances, and acts like she's been doing it a while. Not perfect but pretty close. Jack is likable. He's not another 30-something gorgeous hunk; he manages to pull off the world-weary businessman who's been trying to make the big leagues quite a bit longer than expected--he's not perfect but we like him the better for it.
My only complaint with this movie is the music. It's OK, but they use the same song over and OVER. It's a haunting melody but not pleasing enough for anyone to want to hear that many times. Plus the dancers are off rhythm a great deal of the time and it's DISTRACTING. They never start on the right beat of the music. ANNOYING. A real dance teacher would die before teaching her student to do that. It's not the fault of the actors, but rather whomever synced the music on this thing--they deserve to be spanked.
Still. Worth watching.

A Hallmark Christmas movie before they became cookie-cutter
Verified purchase
As a 50-something male, I'm probably not the target audience for Hallmark, but I do love their Christmas movies. However, as with most things in life, familiarity breeds contempt. As the movies became more and more popular (and expected each season), the format began to fall into a rut. That's why it was such a pleasure to find this older (2012) offering. COME DANCE WITH ME has a depth and maturity often lacking in the newer films. Yes, some of the latter formulae is there, but there's also an undeniable freshness. COME DANCE WITH ME won't win any Oscars, but it is well written, acted, and directed. Oh, and there's that oh so beautiful waltz motif that keeps popping up throughout the movie!

I was Channel surfing and clicked on the Hallmark Channel. At Christmas time I spend a good deal of time watching the Christmas movies on it Luckily I was in time for the beginning. This is almost a magical love story about a man who wants to learn how to dance in order to impress the daughter of his boss who owns a large corporation. He signs up for lessons and begins to feel something for his dance instructor. She receives a letter telling her she will be evicted and asks for legal advice. This is a movie that has a wonderful ending and will make you feel good. This after a couple of viewings has become possibly my favorite Christmas movie ever. Its a very tame movie. I have read reviews and some are offended about a couple who Salsa during the movie. If you can handle Dancing with the Stars you can handle this. I have no reservations about recommending this to anyone

NO SUBTITLES

The product description says it has English subtitles. Nope, it doesn't. The back of the DVD doesn't promise this, but unfortunately there is no pic of the back of the DVD on the item listing either. Oh, well, at least it was cheap. The movie itself is terrific for all the reasons described by other reviewers. I gave three stars because of incorrect info in the listing, as I feel I am rating Amazon's performance here, not the art.

A nice Christmas Story... Really A nice anytime story !
Verified purchase
I saw this movie over the Christmas Holidays and really liked it. I love ballroom dancing and that was part of the appeal. It was kind of a pleasant break from the average romantic comedy in that it had some real life issues in it... that are sometimes comical and sometimes painful. I also liked that family mattered to this young man and woman... and that was in start contrast to the empty life (full of riches but no significance) of the girlfriend and her family (his boss). A good story where some old-fashioned values matter.

Slow but Sweet

I enjoyed this movie. The fiancee's part was overdone and I didn't care for the mother but the two leads did a great job and I enjoyed the story. I also would have snipped the sexy dance at the end. It just took away from a family movie and felt out of place.

Decent Dance film

The story line was 'okay', but lacked enough 'backgroubd development' of the characters, I know the time in limited for the film, but it seemed a bit loose in believability. Still a nice 'feel good' movie to watch during Holiday season. The idea of watching Action/thriller/ shoot-em up or graphically overblown Sci-fy doesn't fill some people with 'Holiday Cheer'. I used to like watching that sort of fare, but in the later stages of my life I've learned, and paid attention to WHAT are the important things that one needs to appreciate. Not some outlandish 'illogical' plot line filled with characters that even I would shoot dead upon meeting....

Must See If You Love Dancing
Verified purchase
This is a great movie and a must see if you love dancing. In watching interviews with Andrew McCarthy, I learned that he wasn't that into dancing before making this movie. Maybe that made the movie better. Both Andrew McCarthy and Michelle Nolden did excellent jobs of acting in this picture. The music was superb and one of the best things about the movie. The only negative at all was that the music wasn't in the credits. I would love to have a CD of the entire song that they danced to. The very best thing about the movie was the dancing scenes. If you have a chance to see this movie, don't miss it. By the way when I ordered the DVD, the price was great as well.
