Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsThe Bible of Essential Oils
Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2017
For many, this is the preferred reference book on the topic of essential oils. This book is informative and thorough. It's clear and concise. You will find yourself referencing it again and again. It's chock-full of recipes and long-standing remedies. One of the reasons people love this book is because the author is practical. She was an expert long before the essential oil craze. She wrote this in a simple clear-cut manner without any hype. Honestly, if you like essential oils you will appreciate this book.

Additionally, this is the newer edition; it's the one you want. I'm very fond of this book. It's a treasure.

3.0 out of 5 starsIt has a lot of information, but I wish it was more in depth.......
Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2016
I'm not really sure why this is not showing a verified purchase, I bought it on amazon and paid full price...... anyway....... I purchased this book mainly for its blends. The essential oil and carrier oil profiles are just a plus for me. I like that this book has many chapters. It has many seperate sections, and it has a lot of information! It has over 800 essential oil blends, which I am very happy about, as it's why I ordered the book. The carrier and essential oil profiles are good, and I like that there are carrier oil profiles, instead of just essential oil profiles. There is also a lot of information in this book for using essential oils with children. I have an 18 month old daughter and I always seek the natural route first. I love that she has the blends organized according to ailment. There is a great section on skin care and hair care with essential oils and carrier oils, as well as insomnia, the two sections I have personally found most helpful so far. I have made several blends based on her information and all have been wonderful! There is also a section all about hydrosols and profiles for hydrosols. And there are even cooking recipes for using essential oils in food! I have been using essential oils for 10+ years, so this book was purchased for a bit of inspiration for blends. Now that I've stated the positives, here are the negatives. There are reasons I gave this book 3 stars, first because I am not thrilled with how thin the pages are (slightly thicker than Bible pages). It makes it harder to flip through the pages quickly, and I feel I have to be very gentle, as not to tear the pages. I also didn't see any rare oil profiles and I was very surprised there was no oil profile for or mention of moroccan blue tansy essential oil. I use this essential oil quite often and I would have liked for it to be used in some of the blends. This book came highly recommended by my essential oil supplier and I can see why! It does have a lot of information! But I would prefer more in depth information, honestly. I can see this book getting some use in my home. I have many books on essential oils and I'll add this book to the collection. I have included a photo so you can see how thick with information this book literally is! UPDATE: I wanted to update my review. I'm a little annoyed with the organization of this book. I also do not like the fact that many of the recommendations of carrier oils and essential oils for skin and hair, are extremely general. For example; every carrier oil is good for All Skin Types! There is not one carrier oil that is not good for all skin types! She does not give any absorption rates or comedogenic ratings for carrier oils. I've started to notice parts of this book that are lacking, and I would have thought being an edited version and the 25th anniversary edition, that this book would have more depth, better editing, and more organization. I'm a bit irritated now that I've had more time with this book and prefer my other essential oil books for reference. My favorite authors are; Julia Lawless, The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils (my go to quick reference), Robert Tisserand, Essential Oil Safety (he writes the book on essential oils!), and Kurt Schnaubelt, The Healing Intelligence of Essential Oils (thats his newest one, it is a wealth of knowledge) and my absolute favorite: Perfume and Flavor Materials of Natural Origin by Steffan Arctander, a classic that will probably never go out of print. I feel there are better choices as far as essential oil books go other than this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The easiest and the lightest book to use as a reference guide

I got into essential oils just a few years ago. Being a complete novice I was looking for a good reference source and fortunately came across this book. I love everything about it and use it a lot! So far I've been finding more than enough information on any topic that was on my agenda. This book definitely saved me lots of time and provided me with natural quick solutions for health and household. I've learned how to defuse oils, make DIY cosmetics, create sprays, inhalers and rollers. It helped me to relief pain, reduce stress, allergies, heal gums, improve sleep, make hand sanitizers, and protect my dog from fleas.

As a former graphic designer I always appreciate when the book has a good layout, easy navigation, excellent legibility, and appropriate paper. This book has it all! One very important part that some reference book, but not this one, neglect to offer is a light weight. This book is very light and that makes it very comfortable to use. It is a huge but I easily lift it with one hand when I flip through (and my hands are very weak). It's amazing how well it is put together! The perfect binding here is indeed perfect: you can open it anywhere and it lays open comfortably. I like it much better than any spiral bound.
Maybe all these technical details are not of interest to many people but I hope that some will find them helpful.

Highly recommend!

OK, FIRST I AM A RN, BSN FOR 15 YEARS (ER, CCU-HEART RECOVERY, ICU, ETC.); THIS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER!!!! I MEAN THERE IS A LOT OF SCIENCE IN THIS BOOK; I ONLY WISH IT WAS CITED, BC I HAVE FOUND AREAS IN THE BOOK THAT CAN BE CITED FROM REPUTABLE SOURCES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: CDC, MAYO CLINIC, JOHN HOPKINS, & MANY OTHER SCHOLARY CITES.
I DO WISH IT WAS ORGANIZED A BIT BETTER. I FEEL SOME OF THE LATTER CHAPTERS COULD'VE BEEN TOWARDS THE BEGINNING. ON THE OTHER HAND, I USE STICKIES TO MARK MY FAV PAGES, WRITE IN THE MARGINS, HIGHLIGHTS, & USE POST-IT NOTES ALL THROUGH OUT THE BOOK. MIND YOU I'VE HAD THIS BOOK FOR ONLY A MONTH.
I THINK ANYONE WHO IS EITHER BEGINNING OR EVEN FURTHER ALONG WOULD ENJOY IT TOO.
IF YOU HAVE ANY TYPE OF MEDICAL BACKGROUND, THIS WILL MAKE IT EASIER TO UNDERSTAND & THAT MUCH MORE INTERESTING.
NOT EVERYTHING CAN BE FIXED BY E.O.'s & AROMATHERAPY, I KNOW THAT, BUT IT IS AN ALTERNATIVE TO START WITH.
OTHERWISE, PLEASE SEE A PROFESSIONAL MD/DO FIRST!

4.0 out of 5 stars Filled with great information - But beware when using the animal section

This book does a relatively good job of giving a good overview of everything essential oils/aromatherapy. I will say though that it does not cover everything in detail, but she does have some other books that may delve more into specific areas. It has an index of all the essential oils she talks about (which from what I can tell is essentially every oil you would be able to find, minus maybe a few more obscure oils). I do want to say though that she suggests essential oil blends for animals, which is not necessarily safe. Many animal species have extreme sensitivities to essential oils, so you should never use them directly on your animal, and should use aromatherapy as little as possible around them. More information can be found on the ASPCA website. Other than that concern, I have had very good success with the blends that are in the book, and find that index mentioned earlier to be easy to determine what oils to use in my own blends.

Excellent reference. Tells me everything I wanted to know about essential oils and answers questions I hadn't even thought of yet. I have a fairly extensive collection of books on the subject but I won't need them any more.

This book is excellent! I even love how the index at the back shows you where to find what uses for each thing you are looking up instead of a sea of page numbers. I'll post a photo as an example what I am talking about. Love this book and honestly I think it should cost WAY more. The time the author put into it must have been enormous! I do wish it was bigger and spiral bound so the pages would lay flat and print was bigger. It is a very thick book but small footprint. Maybe in the revised edition, she can make a deluxe version in hardcover with bigger pages/print and spiral bound, that would just be the best, and I would easy pay $70 for something like that! Please give us a deluxe version choice!

I'm new to aromatherapy and this is the perfect book to learn everything I need to know. If I can't find the info here I don't think it's available anywhere. The topics are separated into nice concise chapters where I'm able to go directly to what I want to know. I've not been able to read everything within the covers of the book yet, but have been able to look up just what I'm looking for easily. If you're a beginner, novice or expert aromatherapist I say this must be in your library. It's a definitive guide to everything you'll need to know when it comes to healing and feeling well with aromatherapy!

This is an informative book, but it really frustrates me. Worwood gives us her favorite oils, but then so many of the recipes she gives (and there are a ton) use different oils. I am a newbie so I don't really know what blends well with what just yet or what you can just leave out so I was getting frustrated enough that I thought I would just quit. I don't have enough money to buy all of the essential oils at one time. Again, there are many, many great recipes and lots and lots of great information. I'm not sorry I have the book at all, but I may get more use out of it later, when I have a better stock built up.

I bought 3 of these books, two were gifts for Christmas. This book is so full of information on how to use oils for a natural healing and comfort. Sometimes it is just the cleansing in our homes, other times its in our bodies. I use essential oils to help with my headaches. I also use essential for aromatherapy. I use a diffuser and fill my home with the terrific scent essential oils. You can also use essential oil and make your own perfume that is not harmful but beneficial to your health. This is a must have book for the beginner oiler or the experienced. You will not be disappointed with it

I had already borrowed the book from my library and had it here when this copy arrived. I was very surprised to see it was substantially larger than the library volume, had thicker pages, and darker ink. As the pages are of "newsprint" paper, the thicker paper and darker ink makes it sturdier and easier to read. It is a DENSE book, filled with information that is cross-referenced so the information on the oils is detailed. Lots of good advice and 800+ "recipes" for every type of use of essential oils, from aromatherapy to skin care to bathing oils to massage oils, to treatment of chronic health issues. I've had my nose buried in the book since I got it. As a person new to essential oils it is very helpful. This is also the 25th anniversary edition, revised and expanded. Looking at the credentials of the author, I trust what I'm reading here.
