Despite a lack of substantial evidence, an MI5 agent must take desperate measures to protect the country he loves when he suspects a UK citizen he’s been monitoring for three years is plotting a major terrorist attack on home soil.
Complicit is a very slow moving espionage story involving David Oyelowo as an MI5 officer who believes he has a domestic British terrorist Arsher Ali. The problems are his superiors don’t think he has enough evidence to take any action. The story is about Oyelowo’s surveillance and frustration with his case. Ali on the other hand plays a very intelligent man. You can’t tell whether he’s a militant or whether he’s simply being targeted for being a Muslim. It’s a battle of wits between the two. The story is interesting but it just moves at a snail’s pace. This is also not one of those movies that spends all its time making a case and then ends with a big action conclusion. What it does do is question the methods used by the West to obtain intelligence as torture is involved by another country. Do the ends justify the means?
This movie moved too slow, and got nowhere really fast. There is no hero. There was no justice. But the movie could have been better. It had all the ingredients of a good movie. Somewhere the writer fell short.
This is an important film ... I rate it a must see. I saw it in limited cable release and purchased it from my collection. It is very powerful and David Oyelowo is amazing .. It is in Pal one more reason to buy a multi player .. I have really enjoyed the British films and this is one more !!!!
