Low visual resolution and amateur acting... but a good story

For some reason, Amazon lists "The Connecticut Kid" as being produced in 2020. However, the film was released in 2011, and judging by its low visual resolution, I'm guessing that the film was shot a few years before 2011. (It looked to me like the film was originally shot in standard definition analog video at the old 4:3 aspect ratio, then re-scanned to a 16:9 aspect ratio.) EDIT: Turns out I was right about this. I found an article online that discussed the filming of the movie in Dec. 2003.

The sound quality is good, and the film kicks off with a lovely montage that makes good use of a pretty John Denver song.

And the story in "The Connecticut Kid" is good: A 30-something easterner comes to Colorado to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a cowboy. The only job he can find is at a dude ranch, where he is the odd man out and snubbed by several of his co-workers. But by hard work and sacrifice, he proves that he can do the work and excel. The story works, and it is helped along by great scenery, a sweet romance, and a smattering of laughs. The dialog in "The Connecticut Kid" has no profanity, and the only thing that possibly pushes the film beyond a PG rating are a couple of fistfights and a vicious attack on one cowboy that leaves him badly injured. (The worst of the attack is off-screen, but the peril feels real.)

I don't regret watching "The Connecticut Kid," but I wish that both the acting and the visual quality were better. However, if you enjoy stories where hard work and sacrifice are rewarded, "The Connecticut Kid" will probably be to your liking. The smaller the screen you watch the film on, the crisper it will appear, so this is a good candidate to watch on a tablet, and not on a 65-inch TV.

I wonder why some people make films .. they're no good at it .. every move was obvious and telegraphed .. too, too boring .. completely juvenile. If you like idiots that you want to punch in the mouth, you might like it..

Amazing story, amazing acting. The main character is freakin epic.

Quotes to take to the bank:

“if i finish my chores early, can i go to the ball with my step sisters!?”

“do you want to go for a walk!?”

“what are you dooooing!?

Movies like this are few and far apart. A movie the whole family can watch and enjoy. Good story line. A bit predictable and not the greatest acting but a well told story.

This movie starts out a little slow, but ends up in a very exciting and endearing story. Lots of horses to see, which in itself has a soothing effect on us humans.
