He may have been a shavetail Lt. But as a rich young man he would have had a much more experience with women.

I have always been a great fan of western novels since I started reading them as a boy in the early fifties and over the years have amassed a large collection of over 2000 mainly paperback copies some of which I am now replacing with Kindle Editions. This re-organisation has also given me the chance to revisit books that I have not read for a while and try out some new authors that have previously escaped my attention or have not been widely published in the UK. Robert Broomall is one of the latter. I read the first of the K Company novels a few days ago and liked it so much that I immediately downloaded the rest of Mr.Broomall's western novels.
This is the second of a series of books about K Company and it's officer's and troopers. The story is excellent, well written and full of action, historical detail and does not pull punches when dealing with the brutality of army life and the political attitudes towards the Plains Indians. CONROY'S FIRST COMMAND continues the fortunes, or misfortunes of a company of the 5th. Cavalry on the Kansas frontier in the years following the Civil War and carries on immediately after the end of K COMPANY, the first in the series. Several of the characters from the earlier book are again present; Lieutenant Tom Conroy, trooper 'Mad dog' Winston, Corporal Skull Anders and Sergeant Link Hayward are part of a detachment sent to a remote way station to establish an army post to protect the stage line. Along with an assortment of mostly unsavoury civilians and a woman they are trapped when the station comes under attack by a warparty of Indians led by the renegade warchief Storm, who has sworn to exterminate every white man in the territory.
Another really top notch story; well worth adding to your bookshelf if you are a collector of the western genre.
Maybe too many deaths but good excitement.
K company will not last long if they keep losing men.
Will continue to follow this author.
Story about the Indian troubles and life in general in the old Wild West
