This one starts with our hero, the Convict, in an underground bunker in Montana. He's the object of experiments and tests to see why he's the only immune person anyone has ever seen. The experiments and tests don't lead to any answers. The doctors and scientists can't figure out why Convict is immune. They also have infected people on site. This, of course, will lead to the downfall of the compound.

At first Convict is kept secured to a bed and treated pretty much like a lab rat, not a human being. After a time and some pretty direct actions by Convict he's allowed up and into the compound. He's also allowed outside. He also gets to speak with some of the folks at the compound. Tim, a computer analyst among them. Lynch, the spook, is always with him. He's there to protect Convict and make sure he doesn't get a chance to escape. Convict hates the man.

Of course the infected do escape and Lynch gets convict away. Lynch is bitten though and the last convict sees of him is Lynch doing his best to delay the walkers in their hunt for fresh meat. Convict to be precise.

Convict and Tim manage to grab an MRAP, a heavily armored and walker proof vehicle and escape the compound while everyone is busy being eaten alive. Convict and Tim both know there is nothing they can do to save any of them and leaving will ensure the two of them will survive.

Tim though not trained with weapons, is willing to learn and use them. He and convict travel, headed South toward convicts home. Of course convict and Tim both know the further South they go, the more dead they will run into.

While headed South they save a man named Dallas. Dallas has been across the country and up and down the east coast. He tells them he has to deliver a message to a woman in a town called Havre. Her husband is on Alcatraz Island and in a safe place along with military and civilians.

Convict isn't keen on this but in the end they end up in Havre after being saved by a group on horseback. Carnie folks. These folks wore armor and used swords, lances and guns to decimate the group of walkers that had Tim and Convict surrounded.

At the Havre compound they meet many military men. Marines and Army. Many special forces operators in this mix. Brick, Ray Ban, Remo among others. They also meet Carla, the woman Dallas had the message for. On hearing about a military presence on Alcatraz some of them along with Dallas and Carla head that way, Brick, Ray Ban and Remo head out with Convict and Tim. They are headed for the rig.

So begins another damned fine read.

This one has Convict, Tim, a lion attack, carnie folks, Brick, Ray Ban, and Remo, a Remo who's one helluva operator, a Remo who teaches Convict many things, a band of motorcycle gangster who have taken over a town, a Remo, Brick and Ray Ban who come up with a plan to kill them all, a captured Convict and Tim, a lawyer who works with the gang, the leader of the gang Chains, the attack by Convicts special forces buddies, two kids who have been in an attic for a year, Ray Ban and Brick paying the ultimate price, a Tim who's a pilot, a C-130 that they find at an airport, a Tim who heads them for the Gulf and the rig, a water landing by the C-130 that goes perfectly, Convicts return, Kat, his other friends on the rig, a Navy destroyer tied up at the rig, the death ship, Alvarez and others who returned to the death ship that almost wiped out the rigs and killed Convict and Ship, the commander of the Destroyer who tells convict the reason for the trip to that ship, a Convict who is pissed as hell that Ship and the others are back on that death ship, a Convict Remo and others who are headed on a rescue mission because they have lost contact with Ship and the others, a Kat who will stay behind and watch the military on the rig and Convict once more putting his life on the line to save his friends, rescue those friends and hope to stay alive.

Five Stars just ain't enough.

Really enjoyable for me. Plenty of zombie action but mainly I like that they make some realistic decisions. I enjoy the protagonist's smart ass humor which is toned down a hair in this book. I also really like that he is NOT ex special forces superman like Just about every other zombie book. Don't worry those guys are there too. Pick it up I really think you'll like it.

Once you read enough of this genre, it becomes clear most books follow one of a handful of formulas. Nothing wrong with that. However, on the rare occasion, a writer takes a chance on something outside the norm and makes it work. I was not completely sold after the first book, but there is no question now. This is an excellent series that I cannot wait to continue.

My short description aside, this is a great book. I was going to say "fast paced, thrilling or page turner" but those are over used.

If you are familiar with the series, I will say that this doesn't disappoint. If you have read the other three books based in this world the I would recommend you take a chance. I found this author using my Kindle Unlimited read for free and the stories are great.

If you haven't noticed, I am not giving you a synopsis of the story. Others have done that a done it well. I can tell you that I read alot, hence Kindle Unlimited,and I end up reading garbage for about a third of the book. This one isn't garbage.

Pros
Good storyline
Consistent throughout and across the different books
Character development in the two books in this storyline took me by surprise. The guy doesn't grow wings or a second dick but he has definitely changes subtly over time.

Cons
Lots of references to shifting yourself. Not a bad thing but sometimes there are long periods of action where things truck along and then it is like the author remembers that the dude is supposed to be earthy.

That last thing is just me being picky. I can't recommend this book and the authors other enough.

Love the style of writing, Having devoured ( !!!) nearly every zombie book available to download on my kindle I came across book 1 of this saga. And was blown away! Immediately downloaded this and having finished it I am gutted there's no book 3 yet. Both books have had me cringing and laughing ( a lot ) interesting characters and a brilliant plot. Very clever. Come on Mr Restucci (please) put pen to paper, finger on keyboard and give us book 3. The suspense is gonna kill me!!!! Well done sir, you have made a middle aged British housewife very happy ,yeah, I know I'm not your usual zompoc fan, but I do know a great book when I read one. And this a great series. Don't hesitate, download and get lost in Rich Restucci's world
