Really enjoyed this story. The investigation starts off right away. Andy is working the case with Shade. The investigation becomes entwined with consequences from the last book. Peasblossom and Shade's relationship is great. This mystery involves an exorcism gone wrong. You learn more about the Vanguard. Majesty and the mysterious cat sidhe are back. Flint is back as well and not happy with Shade's choices. The next book should be interesting with the dynamics between these two. Not sure where the partnership with Andy is heading. He still doesn't seem to trust Shade and seems aloof at the end. You get some insight into his past but it's really just a teaser. No great revelations about Shade's past either, just more questions. This book had lots of action and a good mystery. There are twists in the investigation that kept me guessing. Looking forward to the next one and seeing where Shade's new situation with Flint lands her (and Peasblossom, Majesty and Scath).

I felt this time all my relevant questions for this story were answered. The last 3 books each left some of my questions hanging which was ok but still would have liked them tied up. Not this time it was a fully wrapped up story still with enough threads for a continued journey but complete satisfaction in this individual addition. I enjoy a well written fantasy world, especially when it's set in modern day Ohio.
Shade finds herself knee deep in trouble and drags Agent Andy along, when a Paladin asks for assistance.
Nothing is ever as it seems. This story line, centered around a Catholic exorcism, takes multiple twists and turns.
The reader is introduced to MANY new characters; Vanguard, Demons's, Acolytes, ShapeShifter's, Minotaur's, Fae, etc...
I had recommended that the previous books could be co-read between mothers & daughters. The antagonist in this story is sexually overt and hedonistic.... So I do not suggest co-reading with your daughter. Your BFF would be a better option.

Shade seems to be getting less self aware rather than more. For someone who knows the world and it’s rules she acts with recklessness. She willingly sold herself. I ended up agreeing with Flints assessment that her moral high ground and world view are unstable. I’m not sure I liked her at the end of this book.

I LOVE this series! It is so fresh and unique. I love the approach towards mythical creatures you may or may not have heard of or read about other versions before. Plus who does not love detectives? Especially Shade with Peasblossom as a sidekick. Peasblossom is so very funny. I am so interested in all the story details we need to read more about like Majesty, the cursed cat; Flint, Shade's sidhe "owner" for the next several months at least; Andy, Shade's FBI friend?... I cannot wait to see where all these threads end up.

The other thing I enjoyed: Shade isn't getting better, stronger, and smarter with each book. She is growing, but it isn't by the usual leaps and bounds often seen in fiction series. She is growing, and trying, but it's a bumpy road and she goes back as well as forward. That rings true to me.

I love how everything made sense; the arguments from the priests and the acolytes, the kelpies revenge tactics, the loops thrown by the demon and bounty hunter. L'agent Andy Bradford du FBI est un peu trop présent pour mon goût mais les choses vont changer dans le prochain tome... Il entraine Mother Renard dans des situations très difficiles. Leur relation la tire vers le bas, elle se fait des ennemis plus vite avec lui dans son entourage.
Flint est présent mais très discret dans ce tome. On risque de le voir plus souvent dans le prochain tome.
La panthère et Majesty sont aussi présents et j'était très heureuse de les revoir. Liam, le loup-garou, a brillé de son absence. Dommage!
Une histoire intéressante, l'enquête sur la mort de minotaurs jumeaux qui faisait un exorcisme. Très captivant, je n'ai rien vu venir... et la fin, je l'adore!
Le contre, c'est que l'histoire fait parfois référence aux livres antérieurs. Il y a près de six mois entre la parution des livres, on doit alors se rappeler qui était Dabria, la sorcière du premier livre.On parle encore de Anton Winters mais comme on en parlait aussi dans les autres livres c'est moins difficile de se le rappeler surtout qu'il était très présent dans le premier livre.
Cela dit, j'attend le prochain tome avec impatience.
