Coward of Sand Creek: A Classic Western (Colorado Territory Book 4) Kindle Edition
Branded a coward and Indian lover for trying to stop some of the slaughter of peaceful Cheyennes and Arapahos at Sand Creek, Chase Tanner must live with his “shame.” But he refuses to run, though several members of the Colorado militia keep dogging him with lies, even years after the event. When he falls in love with a Cheyenne and becomes friends with a half-breed and his full-blood wife, things turn to the worse. Tanner turns from fighting to clear his name to fighting for his life and those of his woman and his friends.

Chase Tanner was a member of the Colorado Militia and was involved in the attack at Sand Creek, then he realized that the men were killing not only the warriors, but were viciously slaughtering women, children, and the young and old people, he rode away after trying to stop some of them. He requested a transfer to another unit as the commander of his troop was involved in the massacre. Unfortunately, he was branded a coward and Indian lover by the men, in particular, Colonel Chivington. Chivington swore his revenge on Chase and would not stop branding him as a coward.
The years slipped by, and the Colonel is still out there calling him a coward and Indian lover. When Chase’s life takes a turn and he falls in love with a Cheyenne maiden, and his best friends are Native Americans, Chase figured it was time to fight back.
Join Chase as he is forced to face his past with a vengeance, plus the attacks on his friends and future wife…
What did I like? The history of the Native Americans is sometimes very bloody and the attack at Sand Creek was one of them. I appreciate the approach that John used in recounting the events of that terrible incident. Many were hurt, not only the natives but also others from the stench of the event.
What will you like? A little history, romance, friendships, learning trust, making friends, finding love, facing the past, and looking forward to the future. John has taken an incident of the past and incorporated it into a fascinating storyline that tells the story from another point of view. There is plenty of action and lots of soul searching involved with the characters. The cast ranges far and wide with the good and the bad. The storyline is interesting and well-edited.
