Former soldier Veronica “Ronnie” Morales isn’t going to let her kid brother, Tiago, get pulled into the gangs of Minneapolis, so, seeking safety and a fresh start, she heads to sleepy Deep Haven on the north shore of Minnesota. She’s hoping to put down roots as the paramedic for the new Crisis Response Team, but it’s not easy to be the outsider.
He can’t seem to escape it…
It’s also not easy being the guy related to everyone in town. Especially when you’re the holdout vote for a landmark project. Fire Chief Peter Dahlquist might be the loneliest guy in town when both sides of his massive family—the Hatfields and McCoys of Deep Haven—demand that he pick sides. The only one who seems to understand is the newcomer in town…his new, albeit street-tough paramedic.
Can trouble bring them together?
When Tiago finds himself caught up in small town shenanigans and the town blames Ronnie for tragedy, Peter is forced to pick sides. But this choice just might cost him the home—and the woman—he loves.

About the authors
Growing up in Minneapolis and attending the U of MN, I learned to love city life, although I'm a woodsy girl at heart. Or maybe I'm an adventurer -- having lived and traveled all over the world, including Siberia Russia as a missionary for eight years. Probably that's why my characters can't sit still, and seem to get into one scrape after another -- they're too much like me! I love God, my family, my country, my church, and feel privileged every day to be able to write stories.
Here's my "Official" Bio.
With over 1 million books sold, critically acclaimed novelist Susan May Warren is the Christy, RITA and Carol award-winning author of over seventy-five novels with Revell, Tyndale, Barbour, Steeple Hill and Summerside Press. Known for her compelling plots and unforgettable characters, Susan has written contemporary and historical romances, romantic-suspense, thrillers, rom-com and Christmas novellas.
With books translated into eight languages, many of her novels have been ECPA and CBA bestsellers, were chosen as Top Picks by Romantic Times, and have won the RWA's Inspirational Reader's Choice contest and the American Christian Fiction Writers Book of the Year award.
Of her books, Publisher’s Weekly has written, “Warren lays bare her characters’ human frailties, including fear, grief, and resentment, as openly as she details their virtues of love, devotion, and resiliency. She has crafted an engaging tale of romance, rivalry, and the power of forgiveness.”
And Library Journal adds, “Warren's characters are well-developed and she knows how to create a first rate contemporary romance…”
Susan is also a nationally acclaimed writing coach, teaching at conferences around the nation and winner of the 2009 American Christian Fiction Writers Mentor of the Year award. She loves to help people launch their writing careers and is the founder of Novel.Academy and www.LearnHowtoWriteaNovel.com, a writing website that helps authors get published and stay published. She’s also the author of the popular writing method, The Story Equation.
After growing up on both the east and west coasts, Michelle now loves living the country life in central Minnesota with her own hero and four children. She rocks out to 80's music on a Saturday night, enjoys playing board games, and is a hopeless romantic. And if you're wondering, yes, Sass is her maiden name.

First off, I want to commend Susan May Warren and Michelle "Sass" Aleckson (isn't that a great name), for pulling off a book with an almost total role reversal of what I usually see. That is, Ronnie Morales is a tough, decisive lady, while Peter Dahlquist is a classic "beta male." But never did I think Ronnie was un-feminine, or that Peter was a wimp. They balanced each other out, without the book shoving down your throat that that's what they're doing. They play off each other well, need each other's strengths at different times, and learn from each other the way the best couples do. I loved watching them together, not just because of romantic chemistry but because Ronnie and Peter are so good for each other on every level.
That said, Ronnie and Peter are wonderful as single people too, which is one of my litmus tests for how well a romance is written. Michelle and Susie gave both of them rich inner lives and multifaceted outer lives. I enjoyed how Crazy for You made clear, Deep Haven might look like an idyllic small town, but it has its underbelly, too. *But*, it's people like Ronnie and Peter, who are willing to "roar" and stand up to the bad stuff, that make Deep Haven lovable again. I especially loved the scene where Peter calls out both halves of his crazy big--and maybe just crazy--family in front of the town. I also loved the scenes where Ronnie stood up for Tiago, herself, and their places in Deep Haven, even though they were outsiders, minorities, and might have found it easier to just leave.
Speaking of the tension, I applaud Susie and Michelle for dealing with some tough subjects in Crazy for You without hammering them in. I especially empathized and identified with Tiago when it came to the tension. No, I'm not a Hispanic boy. No, I was never a troublemaker; behavior-wise, I was considered a "good kid." But, I also know how it feels when everybody thinks that because of something--your race, your gender, your disability, whatever--you are automatically the problem. So again, kudos to both authors for handling that, and pointing out how subtle rejection can hurt more than overt. Also, kudos to them for wrapping that issue in others, such as how Peter's family (ies) reacted to Ronnie, reacted to his choices, reacted to others' choices (younger brother Jonathan) and so on.
I want to give a shout-out to both authors on the character of Tiago, too. It's been a long time since Susan May Warren cashed in on the kid factor--the last little kid with a lot of focus I saw from her was probably Tiger from the Christiansen series (who is all grown up now--love it)! Together, Susie and Sass created a great new kid in Tiago. Yeah, he's hard and stubborn. Yeah, I wanted to yell at him a couple times. But his behavior is always understandable, and his true heart is never far from the surface. I rooted for him to trust and to grow, and it doesn't escape me that how he acted was, ahem, sometimes how I act with God when He tries to help me.
Ahem, moving right along...ow, my toe...
The spiritual threads here are spot on, especially Pastor Dan's encouragement to Peter to "roar." After the last year or so, I think we all need that, whatever it looks like in our lives. Additionally, I enjoyed watching Ronnie and Tiago find their way back to belief and learn how to trust again, when they had absolutely no reason to do so. More than any other Deep Haven residents, I got the feeling Ronnie, Peter, and Tiago truly met God in Deep Haven, because it's a place where He has been welcomed for a long time. In this book more than others, I also got the sense that Deep Haven is a place God sends people to heal, and I love it.
As always, the homey feel of Deep Haven hasn't changed. However, I did love meeting new people and seeing new locations. Vivie's theater and her production of West Side Story were my favorites, and I can hardly wait for July so I can spend more time with her. I really rooted for the Crisis Team to come together, and loved watching them work on calls. The fires in particular were classic Susan May Warren; those rescues took me back to my first encounter with Deep Haven in high school.
As always with a book like this, the smaller scenes and details really made it "pop" for me. Check out the scene where Peter paints Ronnie's walls in a decidedly un-manly rose color; I almost cried. And, check out some of the interactions between Tiago and the puppy Blue, or Ronnie enjoying the little pleasures unique to Deep Haven, like her iced mochas. (My personality is almost the polar opposite of hers, but I too am a sucker for chocolate--namely, mocha cookie crumble frappuccinos and dark chocolate grahams or almonds. Heaven deliver my waistline)!
There are a few tiny things I'd have liked to see more or less of. For instance, I know Ronnie and Tiago are Hispanic, and that's great. But other than calling their grandma Abuela or alluding to Spanish gang activity in their old neighborhood, I didn't get a sense of their Latino/a identity. I wanted more Hispanic culture and more positive aspects of being Hispanic. I also felt that some of the behavior toward Ronnie and Tiago, Ronnie especially, was way over the top. Most notably, that Java Cup scene still stings in my brain. That's good; good writers make you feel things like that. But, I was disappointed that no one truly held Kathy, or the parents of the pit party teens, or some others, accountable for their actions.
That said, I won't take a star away for those things because they are small in the scope of what is still a great book, and because I know some scenes were more important (Peter calling out his family was more important than holding minor characters accountable, for one). The last thing I'll say is, Crazy for You gets my enthusiastic recommendation and I can't wait for more. I hope July 6 hurries!

Book 3 in the Deep Haven Collection
Rating: 4/5
Michelle Sass Aleckson has written Peter's story and it's about time! I have been loving these stories from Deep Haven and I especially enjoyed all the small town pros and cons that come up in this particular story.
Moving to Deep Haven was supposed to solve all of their problems. Veronica "Ronnie" Morales and her younger brother, Tiago, need a fresh start after all the bad influences in Minneapolis. Ronnie is sure that the small town of Deep Haven will be everything her former superior in the army, Cole, said it would be. Hired on a probationary basic, Ronnie must prove that her army medic background more than enough proves she deserves the paramedic position for the new Crisis Response Team. Her brother is her first priority but she quickly discovers she's not very good at first impressions when it comes to working with the people of Deep Haven.
Fire Chief Peter Dahlquist is the peacemaker between the Zimmerman and Dahlquist families, which also makes him related to everyone in town. His indecision regarding a town project is making it more difficult to keep the peace. When Ronnie shows up as the new paramedic, she ruffles a lot of feathers and even gets a rise out of Peter. Can Ronnie's straightforwardness help Peter make the right decision? When suspicious activities come up, will Peter believe what Ronnie and Tiago have to say?
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these characters from Deep Haven more. It was fun recognizing some of the new characters from the first two books in this series and seeing some of the older characters from Susan May Warren's original books. I really sympathized with Peter and his family situation. I thought Ronnie was a little harder to relate to and she could be a bit annoying at times but then because of her background, you could understand why she was the way she was. The faith aspect of this book was sweet and rang true but it didn't hit you in the feels the way Susan May Warren always does. However, the fact that this book is lighter on the faith aspects might be something you enjoy more depending on what you like to read. I really enjoyed seeing the family feud parts and also the parts with the teenagers. I'd love to focus some more on the youth in Deep Haven but that's a whole other series.
Highly recommend if you enjoy Christian romantic comedies with small town antics and a hint of mystery.
My thanks to the publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.
Former military paramedic Ronnie Morales is new to town and needs to keep her job with the newly formed Crisis Response Team. She moved to Deep Haven to get her little brother out of the big city and away from the friends and trouble he was drawn toward.
Sparks (both the good and the bad kind) fly when Pete and Ronnie meet. When tragedy strikes, sides are taken and lines are drawn. Both Pete and Ronnie have to learn hard lessons about forgiveness and humility.
Michelle Sass Aleckson has captured Susan May Warren’s characters, setting, and voice in a wonderful addition to the Deep Haven canon. I loved everything in this story. From Pete’s dilemma of choosing his family or his town to Ronnie having to dial back her intensity to show the people of Deep Haven that she can fit in.
I highly recommend CRAZY FOR YOU!

I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher, but it did not induce me to review it, favorably or not. In fact, I preordered another copy! That's how much I love it!

‘Ronni wants a new life for her young brother; a place he won’t get into drugs and gangs. A place they can put down roots and call home.
Peter just wants to navigate the riptide between the expectations of the two halves of his family. They are taking him apart, but still can’t see him except as an extension of themselves. Two contradictory, unmeetable, expectations; which side should he please or make hate him?
Welcome back to Deep Haven!
