5.0 out of 5 starsColor a bit of fashion accessory history with these vintage hand fans

I'm confused by most of the reviews seen here, because they are for a book of winter scenes rather than for the book sold on this page, which is vintage hand fans. My review is for Creative Haven's Vintage hand Fans.
That being said, you can't go wrong with Creative Haven coloring books, with their one-sided format, good quality perforated pages, and talented artists. Marty Noble is one of my favorite coloring book artists, and in this book, she doesn't disappoint. The collection of hand fans she depicts, as she explains in the introductory note, are actual fans, some from the collection of Anna Checcoli, known as a preeminent collector of fine antique fans, and some from museums. These fans come from around the world, and are predominantly from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Some are folding fans and others are paddle-type. All of them are beautifully portrayed with enough detail to be challenging to color, and are designed for the experienced colorist. I like the fact that a decorative background and border surrounds each illustration to set off the fans in an elegant way and to keep the illustration from coming too close to the book binding. This book is both fun to color and provides a bit of fashion history.
