Since well before his epic 1974 walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, Philippe Petit had become an artist who answered first and foremost to the demands of his craft - not only on the high wire, but also as a magician, street juggler, visual artist, builder, and writer. A born rebel like many creative people, he was from an early age a voracious learner who taught himself, cultivating the attitudes, resources, and techniques to tackle even seemingly impossible feats. His outlaw sensibility spawned a unique approach to the creative process - an approach he shares, with characteristic enthusiasm, irreverence, and originality in Creativity: The Perfect Crime.
Making the listener his accomplice, Petit reveals new and unconventional ways of going about the artistic endeavor, from generating and shaping ideas to practicing and problem-solving to pulling off the "coup" itself - executing a finished work. The strategies and insights he shares will resonate with performers of every stripe (actors, musicians, dancers) and practitioners of the non-performing arts (painters, writers, sculptors), and also with ordinary mortals in search of fresh ways of tackling the challenges and possibilities of everyday existence.

Prior to reading the book I had accidentally come across a presentation on this book that Philippe did in Italy (it's on Youtube under Festival della Mente 2014 - Philippe Petit). It was very funny and interesting and I thought that I definitely need to see this book. Just like with the Man on Wire book, I couldn't put this book down and I read it in one weekend. I am not an artist myself, but I have friends who are artists and sometimes I think to survive in this world a person needs to be at least a little bit of an artist and to have an imagination. I think this book can be useful for any person. The book had Philippe's experiences and some personal stories that he wanted to share with the reader. My favorite story was the one when he was carrying his little girl up a ladder to get away from the storm. I think Philippe is a very intelligent, sweet and hard working person who has a lot of positive energy which he likes to share with other people and this book is a great example of that. It was a pleasure reading this book and i can't wait for his next book/talk/project :)
Having said that, like being a baseball fan, when my fav. baseball player strikes out, it hurts me just that much more. Here, I am very happy to report, he not only hits a grand slam and rounds the bases floating on his cloud of mystical creativity—but, he includes the fans of this book in his "crime" which he calls "c r e a t i v i t y."
Merci Monsieur! Merci! Like his other books Mr. Petit does not need a wire to walk, oranges to juggle or a lock to pick. It is fairly stated in the beginning by a jacket-blurbing fan that Philippe Petit has provided humanity "with one of the great works of art of the 20th century"…my, how limiting!
I'd amend that adulation: This book, his life, his insight into his process, is one of the greatest works (and guides)…ever.
Bravo Philippe…bravo!

Philippe covers everything you could possibly think of in the world of creativity. He delivers it with such flair, elegance, attitude and geniusness. The book is like a story from the first chapter, yet it reveals so much about Philippe, about life, about creation, about literally living life on a tight rope!
If you have even the slightest curiosity about this book, then I advise you to buy it! You'll learn lot more to pay attention to your intuition after reading this anyway, let me tell you!
Philippe shows his character in all colours, his belief, his humbleness, his... Just buy the damn thing and stop reading reviews!
Again, absolute must-read for anyone with an open mind and interest in learning!
