No English Subtitles

This is a review of this version of the bluray since it's being advertised on the US site. I bought this because the US market does not have a bluray version available yet. Normally most foreign market discs I've bought have English subtitles. This one does not. If that matters to you, don't buy this release. One start to warn other buyers.

If you are adventurous, you can download a subtitles file and remux it into an mp4. It takes a little effort to figure out. You can find an SRT file on subtitledb. Com. And then use handbrake or equivalent to burn in the subtitles.

The Blu-Ray has no region coding and looks fantastic

Sony has seen fit to never give us a Blu-Ray in the U.S. so this import will fit the bill. There is no region/zone coding so it will play just fine. The 1080p image is quite nice and while likely from an older 2K scan, it does look terrific. The negatives are the menu (weird to navigate) and the subtitles, which are entirely too large of a font. Why do studios give us gigantic subtitles? Oh well.

I like the movie. I enjoy the DVD.
The movie does an excellent work in setting the atmosphere, ambience, and the tone of The Crimson Rivers. I rate these qualities over the story. Watch it. I believe you will experience what I feel. I could relate to the coldness, eccentricity, foreigness, suspense, and many dark emotions that the movie expresses.
I like the story too. I am a sucker for stories that developed from few isolate incidents to a grandeur scheme involved almost everyone. From the excellent bonus interview that is included in the DVD, I believe the book would be a much better interpretation of the story. Although, I have to argue that the interviewee are not too modest nor subtle.
Almost a classic, but I definitely cannot say it is... just a good movie that you would discuss quite a bit after watching it.

I have no idea what went wrong here

I'm a Jean Reno fan. Loved him in The Professional. Crimson Rivers doesn't come close. Starts out promising...and not even sure what goes wrong. Maybe it's the writing, or even the direction. Could be because he had to share screen time with Vincent Cassel.
We're so used to Jean Reno kicking butt that when he doesn't, well, it's disappointing. It's like watching a Bronson flick without the action. Not easy to adjust to.
Not giving up on Mr. Reno, though. No way.

Blood Chilling Suspense

Here is a movie that will make you shutter before its all over. The French actor Jean Reno along with Vincent Cassel are involved in the gruesome murders at a college in the Alps. The story is worth watching and even owning a copy of this mystery. There is a lot of dark secrets uncovered which comes to a smashing conclusion.

Jean Reno is among the great actors of our time. Every detail of this movie, characters, story, locations, and especially the music makes this a pleasure to watch many times.
