There used to be more of these horrible displays of a woman submitting to a man's display of fake power, of a male actor supposedly "hitting some nerve," and the woman, initially determined to throw the bum out - instead falls prey to the need to explain herself. Once taking the bait, the woman then discoverers some yet unknown weakness in herself, a weakness which only this wise, boundary-pushing man seemed able to bring into the light.
In reality, of course, men like that are intruders, and should be thrown out, just as firmly as if you came home and found a man in your house browsing your CD collection. You don't owe him anything. YOu don't owe him a moment of honesty while you find the words to describe why your offended. Just throw him out and go about your business.
Movies like this foster a popular male myth that a clever man can hold psychological sway over a women, be psychologically abusive, and expect the audience to fall for the garbage-idea that this man is only bringing out some hidden quandary in the woman, an issue which she should be grateful to the man for making her deal with.
All garbage. Movies like this portray a type of rape, a type of invasion. Movie institutions that produce "psychological thrillers" like this are just making movies portraying rape. Such movies are not clever or insightful; they simply stream a form of psychological violence that no person should watch or feel the need to submit themselves to.
