Prince Crux is in a bind.
When the Dragon King commands Crux find a proper mate, his days of carefree bachelorhood are over. One trip to a psychic matchmaker and he's on the path to his destiny. But it all comes screeching to a halt when he meets a human woman who lights his inner fire and makes him yearn.
She's got a pair of roller skates and an attitude.
Courtney is supposed to be putting the shambles of her life back together. Getting abducted by aliens isn't part of the plan. Neither is getting rescued by a scorchingly hot dragon that makes her think of an impossible future. But they have no chance together if they can't first escape a planet full of monsters intent on their destruction.
Fated mates, fierce women, and dragon princes are ready to find their mates in the new Dragon Brides series from Kate Rudolph.

I liked that Courtney didn't just bemoan the fact that she'd been kidnapped, she actually escaped onto a planet the spacecraft had crashed on by knocking one of the aliens out with her roller skates. You have to read the story to see why she had them. It was different that she was able to help protect Crux and herself by breathing fire on some monsters she and Crux encountered on the planet. Crux hadn't even claimed, nor bitten, her at that time. This was when it really hit Crux that she was his mate, although it was odd that he didn't know she was his mate at first. He just knew he was very attracted to her. Of course, he never told her she was his mate until later in the book.
I did think it strange that Crux talked just like a human. I mean I know one has to understand what's said, but maybe some of his words could've been strange ones Courtney had never heard of before. Also, when Crux tracked Courtney down on Earth (yes he was able to return her to Earth), he had a black card they were able to use to stay at a hotel (Courtney didn't have anywhere to live because her roommates rented her room to someone else since she had been missing for a month). Black card sounded, and worked, a lot like a credit card to me. One thing I didn't like was the male main character wasn't described in much detail. Another thing I didn't like was it felt unfinished because it ended while they were still on Earth but were going to Crux's planet so his father, the king, could meet Courtney. Would've been nice to see how that went. Maybe it's something that'll happen in the next book but I don't want to get the next book just to see if that happens.
Crux is an alien/shapeshifter/dragon/royalty story featuring a prince searching for his mate and a human who found herself in something of a pickle when she got abducted from work one night by alien slavers. Crux is your typical warrior prince with the same hesitance to settle down that one expects from these types, but it's mostly because he's holding out for his true mate and not settling for less. Courtney, for her part, is a down on her luck 20 something trying to get by working as a skating waitress while she gets her life back together. I loved that she wasn't a shrinking violet and fought for herself at every turn.
The two of them go through some interesting adventures. Primitive planets with terrifying creatures, rescues from crashed space ships, lessons in alternative uses for roller skates, some expected lack of communication that leads to confusion, steamy encounters of the alien kind, and an entertaining meet the parents moment. All in all, the book was a lot of fun. We meet a new species, some interesting friends, have the above mentioned adventures, and watch the two find their way to each other. I have the next book by both Mrs. Rudolph and Mrs. Ley on pre-order!
If you like you your romance with aliens, you don't mind a few scales, enjoy steam, and find world hopping princes attractive, you should give this book a go!
This is a story about the self-doubts that the H has about having a human mate.
Read to find out what happens. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and this review is my own opinion.
The ending was just like wham, bam, thank you ma'am - well, to me it was
I want to know how Crux's father reacted to Courtney. I want to know if they have children... I need to know all the things.
