One of John Hughes' best films!
Verified purchase
I've always loved Curly Sue ever since I saw it in the theater in 1991. As far as I knew I always assumed it was a beloved family comedy but over the years I've read how it's apparently "John Hughes' worst film" and "the film is just terrible". Don't believe it! Curly Sue is a very enjoyable and very touching family comedy that comes from an unfortunate bygone era. The cast, script and direction are all great. It's also one of James Belushi's most shining moments and is a great Chicago film! I really hope it gets a blu ray someday! Don't let the negative reactions from this film affect your decision to watch it! Judging from the great high score for this film on this site it seems to be well beloved by many still!

One of John Hughes' & Jim Belushi's Best!

John Hughes delivers a brilliant family comedy teaming up Jim Belushi, Kelly Lunch and Allison Porter. A big Jim Belushi fan since K-9, Jim shows that he can be funny and heartwarming at the same time. The behind the scenes commentary with Allison Porter provides unique insight into the young child star's experience on-set with Hughes and her veteran co-stars. The classic never dies. Curly Sue is a gem for adults and kids alike.

It was just too dated for me.

I looked forward to finally getting a copy of this movie and was let down. It turns out somewhere over the past 10 to 20 years I've begun leaving certain style of movies behind. And this fit into that category. Cute but in it's day no doubt really much better. A remake maybe would improve it or not. But the actors were fine and the girl cute but just did't work for me today. Pretty family friendly where adults can watch with children without embarressments for the most part.

Great blast from the past but the language...

These old movies are great in the theme department but the bad language or all together choice of words I just don't understand. I will have to get vidAngel if I want to go back and watch movies from my wonder years that I thought were great movies and then I watch them now and think hmmm could I not hear then. Again great movie plot but the use of GD is really overused and unneeded to make this a good movie.

Loved, loved, loved

I absolutely fell in love with this movie. I had never heard of it. Made in 1991 so 25 years ago. I thought this little orphan girl to be cuter than Shirley Temple, not as pretty though. In fact the cutest child I had ever seen in a movie. I recommended it to everyone I knew and a few days later I got an email from one of them that the girl who played Curly Sue was going to be on The Voice. And she was great on it singing Blue Bayou this past Monday. Jim Belushi was good as well.

Charming comedy

I love Belushi, but this film showcases him in a way that will endear him to you. Its a feel good story, the kind you don't see much nowadays. Its funny and sad at the same time but its great family entertainment. Well paced, great cast, excellent story line. Highly recommend.

Classic, funny, family movie

I love this movie! I grew up watching it and to me, it's a classic that doesn't get the credit it deserves. It's as good as other classics like Home Alone and The Goonies. I have been looking for this movie for years and could never find it. I love you Amazon! I finally got to sit and watch it with my kids and they LOVED it and now walk around the house saying, "hubba, hubba!" 😊
