Right up there with the Coen Brothers movies. Watched it three times and each time discovered new insights and innuendos. Then I watched again with the director/producer comments and gained even more info re character development and back story. Aging Dern and Malkovich a delight to watch.

I don't understand the bad reviews at all. I can say that I really enjoyed this movie and I was rapt from start to finish. Were there some things that were predictable, sure, were there some things that could have been omitted, sure. But I'm here to tell you that even though the cover compares this to "Blood Simple" (I truly hated that movie) I loved this one. So understated and not so understated that I was bored, I was totally interested and besides a good story I give credit to a first rate cast. Liam Hemsworth, Billy Bob Thornton, Bruce Dern and John Malkovich. With those names Liam more than held his own. BRAVO. I can't tell you too much about this movie.....mysteries abound and I don't want to give anything away. Keep in mind while watching it....the pace is deliberately slow and will build.

Great cast with vivid storyline

Truly an entertaining movie. All star acting, writing and direction. Hard to find fault unless you're a jaded critic. Thoroughly enjoyed. Redemption comes in small community ways. Have to live it to know its honesty.

Big Stars Having Fun
Verified purchase
I more or less enjoyed this movie, but I figured out the initial twist almost immediately, which is something I am rarely able to do. (The director practically handed it to us on a platter--or rather, a poster.) It was fun to see Malkovich and Dern as well as Thornton take on their roles, though. The villain with his "p-p-p-parcel" was way too obvious and I wasn't clear about what he was doing, exactly when the reveal came at the end. Finally, the locations seemed inconsistent: one minute we were in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere and the next in an area with a huge high school.

Two and a Half Stars

Two and a Half---- I would have given it a straight "2" if it were not for the cast. I believe it is a Direct TV Project so that explains the money for the cast. And Liam Hemsworth, I never felt it before, his acting was what I believe they call "sleep walking". No personality compared to the other heavyweights in the cast. The plot I understand but the logic involved was sub believable. By the way, I'm not one to do reviews unless I'm passionate.

wow really bad

this is the most overdone kind of movie , can not believe anyone spent money to make this loser of a film ,just like the bad films of yesteryear boring killing film with pour writing .. Can not understand why some great actors would do many films that are being made today and such demand for films with so many pay channels that they can not make a film worth watching....if you have no ideas for a story write a killer murder film that is the same as every uncreative writer , just for a dollar .

Better than expected

The cast keeps this alive. Maybe the plot isn't all that much, but I am grateful as long as the movie doesn't drag. This one kept me engaged all the way. Oliver Platt is a real scene stealer.

Armie Hammer?
Verified purchase
After doing a search for Armie Hammer DVDs I ordered this. I should have relied on IMDB for an accurate listing of his films.
Armie is not in this film. It isn't a bad film but I lowered my rating from 4 stars to 1 stars for inaccurately including this film in the search for Armie.
Live and learn.
