About D.G. Valdron
D.G. Valdron: First off, I’m very private, and quite reclusive. I don’t like having my picture up. I’m not thrilled with revealing much of anything about my life. But apparently, as a writer, you have to put yourself out there. So here goes.
I’m a wayward Maritimer (that’s the term for a person from the Atlantic Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island), born on the north shore of New Brunswick. My dad was a mechanic, my grandfather was a carpenter, and between the two of them, it left me an arsenal of skills, a work ethic, and a practical approach to life. Growing up, we did everything and worked on everything from retreading tires, to small manufacturing, to construction, to running cement, doing carpentry, and working on cars. We raised chickens. There was always something to do. We were all involved, the whole extended family. I’ve had the usual assortment of quirky writers jobs, mechanic, carpenter, projectionist, cook, waiter, woodcutter ditch-digger, journalist and school teacher.
These days I’m a lawyer working in the field of aboriginal rights, I’ve been doing that for a while, I’m good at it, and I like to think I make a difference. Let’s face it, anyone who wants a career in the arts needs to have a day job to pay the bills. And I’m trying to write a bit here and there. I think I’ve been a writer my whole life, even when I wasn’t writing.
ON BEING A WRITER
My earliest memory is dragging my brother, in his high chair, over to a blackboard so I could draw Batman adventures for him. I couldn’t even write in those days, but even back then, I knew I wanted to tell stories. No matter where I’ve gone, what I’ve done, that storyteller has always been in me, struggling to get out.
I published my first story when I was thirteen. Just like Ray Bradbury. Actually, I published two of them. So Bradbury can suck it. I've written a lot of Short Stories.
I have (had?) a novel out through Five Rivers Publishing, out of Ontario, called The Mermaid’s Tale. They’ve recently closed, and the rights are reverting back to me. So, I guess I’ll have to figure something out. There’s a prequel to The Mermaid’s Tale called The Luck, which was going to come out through Five Rivers Publishing in August 1, 2020, which should be even more so. My publisher calls the series ‘Tales of the Nameless.’
I also have a short novel or novella called The Bear Cavalry: A (Not) True History of the Icelandic Bears. It’s a kind of free form thing, written as a Morgan Spurlock documentary. And I have another novel about two giant monsters laying waste to Korea, coming through Wild Hunt Press, called Pulgasari versus Yongary. Or vice versa. That should be out this year, 2020, or 2021, hopefully.
I have a three of collections of horror stories – Giant Monsters Sing Sad Songs; and There Are No Doors in Dark Places. What Devours Hungers. Available as Ebooks, check them out, you’ll like them. And two collections of Speculative Fiction - Dawn of Cthulhu and Fall of Atlantis.
Ever hear of LEXX? Canadian sci fi show about a giant bug that goes around blowing up planets, and it’s crew, a cowardly security guard, an undead assassin, a shape changing love slave and a demented robot head. It’s wonderfully surreal and subversive, and the story of its creation is even more demented. The creator of the series, Paul Donovan, once invited me to write the book for the show. That fell through, eventually I wrote the book I wanted to write. Now, I’m releasing it as a four book chronicle – the first volume is out, the second will be out soon. LEXX Unauthorized, Volumes One and Two. Volume Three will probably be later this year, and Volume Four either late this year or early next year. I’m not sure there’s a market, but it’s a labour of love, and I’m proud ot if.
The Greatest Unauthorized Doctor Stories, Volumes One and Two. Did I tell you I loved weird obscure sci fi? Well, obviously that makes me a Doctor Who fan, and a while back I discovered fan films. Basically, these are unauthorized productions – Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Superheroes, you name it – made by fans and amateurs. Literally, these people are creating their own versions, making films they’ll never make money from, just for the sheer love of doing it. I think that’s something to be admired. I started watching Doctor Who fan films in particular, and the best ones were absolutely amazing. But they were also hard to find, and hard to separate out. So I’ve written a couple of books, which are now online. I’m actually continuing to research and revise so I’ll probably release a re-mastered trilogy, chock full of crunchy goodness.

Blog postAs nearly as I can tell, I contracted Covid on a flight back from The Pas at the end of April. I’d spent a week up in The Pas, but I’m pretty sure I wasn’t infected or infectious there, as I phoned around and checked with contacts.
Symptoms started in heavy on April 29. I won’t bore you with them. They were the usual. I went downhill fast. I was exhausted, but I could only sleep for short spells and only sitting up. If I laid down, I could feel my lungs filling with fluid. When4 weeks ago Read more -
Blog postHow about that war? Huh?
Nobody saw that coming. Go figure.
Exactly how or why the war started, and what the motivations are is a bit of a mystery. When you look at it, there doesn’t seem to be a precipitating incident. Relations had not worsened. There was no crisis. Instead, Russia calmly builds up troops along the border for several months, assuring that everything is business as normal, and Whoops! Invasion!
To be fair, Russia has been invading Ukraine since 2014,2 months ago Read more -
Blog postA while back, a famous local artist came to me with a challenge. Write a story about one of their artworks. More than one actually. Anything I wanted.
Actually, there’s a little more to it than that. They were doing a portfolio, fifty or sixty pieces of art, full of surreal images and scenes, glimpses into a strange otherworld, both Buck Rogers and profoundly abstract. Here were the rules of the game.
There would be four writers, working independently:

Blog postWell, I know this is a writers blog. But what the hell, I’ve got a platform here, and the beauty of obscurity, is that I can say anything I want at any time I want. Most of us trudge through life in silence, or we ‘tweet’ or post ‘memes.’ But I’m a writer, I like to write. I like to develop complex thoughts and ideas. In this world of flash and brevity, I like to go a little longer.

Blog postOne of the horrible things about Covid was that we were forced to confront the reality that humans are just awful contrary asses who would rather swim in a bilge of conspiracy theory, than act or think rationally. And no, this is not an attack on Trump Supporters or Covidiots, as moronic and fascistic as those jerks are. This time, we’re seeing it in Russia’s war on the Ukraine, wherein people who really should know better on both the right and left are embarrassing themselves.

Blog postAll right, here we are in the midst of another bit of humanity’s ugliness. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
And once again, the stupid is on the rise. Let me deal with it and make sure I offend everyone, then we’ll get on to the real discussion.
First of all, all this appeasement talk? Stupid, this isn’t WWII. No fly zone? Stupid idea, unless you want a thermonuclear war. What about the Palestinians? It’s been 80 years, not even the rest of the Arab states care about the Pa3 months ago Read more -

Blog postWell, so much for 2021. I thought I’d step back and take stock, do a year in review in terms of my career as a writer, or as an attempted writer.
The Bottom line: All titles collected, I sold almost a thousand books this year, and legitimately made more money as a writer than I’ve ever done in my life. I released three new books this year: LEXX Unauthorized, Little Blue Marble; Axis of Andes and New World War. I had two more books almost ready to go, but couldn’t quite get the right a5 months ago Read more -

Blog postHey, that’s me at the bottom!
Welcome to Wild Hunt Press’s Duel of the Monsters, Volume 2. Chris Nigro, the publisher of Wild Hunt invited me to contribute.
The rules were:
They had to be recognized monsters – Frankenstein’s, Vampires, Wendigo, Sea Serpents, Krakens, Sasquatch, Grizzly, Lizard men, known to folklore, movies, television etc. They had to fight! There had to be a definite Winner! Basically, it’s a big monster throwdown. That sounded like a lot of fu8 months ago Read more -

New World War concludes the saga begun in Axis of Andes. These stunning alternate histories explore the baroque and tragic journey of Latin America from independence to the depression, and chronicling a dark history that might have been.
In Axis of Andes, a tiny change alters the outcome of an election. Rippling outwards, Fascist movements gain more momentum, local politics unravel in new directions. What in our history was a small brushfire war between Ecuador and Peru becomes a death struggle as a prepared Ecuador fights back. As the world looks on, Chile attacks Peru, the Andean wars begin and the conflict brings invasions, counter-invasions, trench war, sea battles and brutal contests extending from mountains to rain forests.
New World War shows us the Andean powers stalemated and growing desperate. None of them have the power to knock their adversaries out of the war. Instead, one by one other nations are drawn in as the warring nations seek advantage, Bolivia falls into civil war as Peru and Chile invade. Beyond the Andes mountains, in the headwaters and tributaries to the Amazon, dueling riverboats and jungle fighters from Ecuador and Peru blunder into Brazil, and in the north and south, Argentina and Colombia meddle for their own advantage.
New World War is written both as a history and as a series of compelling narratives. It features deep examinations of the societies and economies of each combatant, and exploring the underlying tensions and stresses, the fault lines and tectonic divides that drive the internal politics and international agendas of each combatant. Away from the big pictures, we see scenes of the war and the combatants from their own perspective as the world falls apart around them.
The Axis of Andes and New World War is a thrilling, yet scholarly, Alternate History series which ultimately rewrites the map of South America.

A tiny change ends up altering the outcome of an election. Rippling outwards, Fascist movements gain more momentum, local politics unravel in new directions. The Axis of Andes is the first part of a two part Alternate History series which ultimately rewrites the map of South America. Volume One begins the war with the Invasion of Ecuador, the March on Lima, expanding to trench warfare between Peru and Chile, sea battles between Chile and Peru, and a jungle war slowly spreading through the interior.
Followed in July 2021, by The New World's War, chronicles the resulting Bolivian Civil war, Brazil's rain forest war and the inevitable engagement of Argentina, Paraguay, Columbia in the conflict. Over everything, the spectre of the United States, distracted by European and Asian theatres, looms darkly.
This second installment in the ongoing ATTACK OF THE KAIJU series has thirteen tales of giant monster mayhem brought to you by fourteen different authors, as well as three bonus essays by additional writers covering the world of kaiju. This includes such prominent kaiju authors as Matthew Dennion (publisher of ATTACK OF THE KAIJU Volume 1: AGE OF MONSTERS and creator of the series); Skip Peel (long-time scribe of kaiju fiction for G-FAN magazine); Zach Cole (creator of Marugrah, whose published saga began with KAIJU EPOCH); and Andres Perez (co-host of the popular KaijuNoir channel on YouTube and creator of the kaiju-fighting mech warrior Draco Azul, now in his own comic book). Also included is the work of Kane Gilmour, John LeMay, Christofer Nigro, D.G. Valdron, Christopher Conde, Alex Dumitru, Neil Reibe, Cody Bratsch, Andrew Nguyen, Nathan Marchland, Kevin Heim, and Dustin Dreyling.
Within these pages humanity desperately tries to fight their way back to the top spot as ruler of the world, but can their paltry military weaponry hope to prevail against the most powerful monsters in the genre of fantastic fiction? And where common soldiers may come up short, could super-heroic sentai and robotic mechs – both of whom can match the kaiju in size and power – possibly help turn the tide in favor of human civilization? Can even the gods themselves help preserve humanity’s reign, or are the titanic predators destined to transform their respective Earths into a kaiju kingdom?
The answers to these questions will be found in this very tome, so read if you dare! A lot of great excitement and horrifying nightmares await you inside.
A collection of reviews and essays that chart a hidden history of fan recreations of classic Doctors, brand new Doctors, female Doctors, black Doctors, Doctors from around the world, shot from Mayan temples, to the Cutty Sark sailing ship, Roman Ampitheatres, British landmarks, scenic ruins. The stories of the Greatest Doctor Who Fan Films ever made.
A unique exploration of an unexamined corner of the Doctor Who Universe. When Doctor Who first went off the air in 1985, fans began to create their own films to fill the void. The decline and cancellation of the show resulted in a wave of unauthorized productions, including a Female Doctor series, parodies and spoofs, stage plays and audio adventures, films that explored obscure corners of the Doctor Who, or that recreated the feel and style of the classic series with astonishing fidelity.
Written in a breezy informative style, the book consists of a series of entertaining reviews of the greatest and most important fan films, together with a series of essays that explores the politics behind Doctor Who's crisis and cancellation, the emergence of a fan culture which supported these films, and the evolution of the technology which made them possible.
This is a must read for any Doctor Who fan, young or old, interested in the hidden corners and secret spaces of their favourite show.
