About Don (D. A.) Carey
Don (D. A.) Carey is an Army Veteran that comes from a long line of Army veterans on both sides of the family. After moving around a lot and finally settling in Kentucky as a kid, he grew up with a step-family of Kentucky do-it-yourself country people who made the discussion of history and “Foxfire” skills a regular part of dinner conversation, giving a perspective that not everyone has. He enjoys sharing family stories with his readers and followers.
Most of the locations in his books are real and he’s been to them personally. Don has a day job in the white-collar world of technology leadership and still manages to make time to hunt, ride horses, hike, and camp. One of the highlights of the year for him is an annual trip into the woods of Tennessee (Big South Fork – Charit Creek) on horseback for several days with 10-15 men carrying only what can be fit in the saddlebags.
Feel free to follow him on social media (Author D.A. Carey on Facebook) for closer look at the annual trip to Charit Creek and more.

(A word from Don)
If you enjoyed one of my books, I’d be very appreciative if you’d take a moment to write a short review and post it on Amazon. A few words are all it takes.
Amazon uses a complex formula to determine what books are recommended to readers or show up in the search functions. How many books sell are only one small part of the formula. The quantity of reviews are also an important factor.
Also, don’t forget…I choose to write in this genre for you all! I like that people enjoy these stories and who can share my vision. I like the interaction on social media and when we meet at public events. Please feel free to reach out to me on Facebook at Author D. A. Carey or on my website, WWW.DACarey.com . There is a blue sign-up button on my webpage for my newsletter that I send out sparingly. It will have information about upcoming books, events and giveaways that I hope you’ll enjoy. I can be e-mailed at DACarey@DACarey.com.

When the funds dried up and all the political machinations failed, nothing remained but the people. Left to their own devices, what sprang up more resembled the Old West of the 1800s. Law existed in small towns as much as could be prosecuted by a sheriff and a few deputies backed by a local judge and the townspeople. Outside the towns, homesteads and travelers operated at their own risk and the bandits and plunderers knew it.

Goose Truman is a haunted, damaged man taking out his misery on the bad men of the new world. Losing his family in the early days of the apocalypse broke something inside Goose. His only saving grace a bond of friendship with the governor of Kentucky who in an attempt to kill two birds with one stone tasked Goose with hunting the worst of the bad men terrorizing Kentucky, while building an elite band of Rangers in the state.
The governor envisioned an elite force much like Texas had in the early days of Rangers that would track the worst of the worst no matter where they went. Goose had other ideas. While he was happy to exact vengeance on the people who’d wrought so much destruction in the country, he had no intention of bringing any of them to a courtroom. The last days of the old America had sown a healthy distrust of the courts. Besides, bringing back prisoners added another level of risk to an operation that Goose didn’t want.
Goose had built a reputation so terrifying it created enemies and mothers used it to make their children behave. He also had an extended network of friends who had known him before. Those friends were willing to help, if Goose would only sober up and allow them to.
As the missions got riskier and the gangs larger, Goose began to lose his passion for killing, and living, when he is finally pitted against a challenge even too large for him. That doesn’t stop him.
Something’s gotta give.

Can the people of America rebuild from the ashes, starting at the small towns and working up?
Will the outlaws and robber barons turn America into a series of feudal kingdoms won by hard men with low morals?
Can the Horsemen create a spark of hope and tip the balance between good and evil in America?
Will Goose Truman be a tragic footnote in the history of the new America, or will he create a spark of change among the people who survived the apocalypse?
After America suffered blow after blow of internal strife, work stoppages, police shootings, riots, and immobilizing national discord, the riches of the country attracted international villains who eyed the country like a wealthy home with an open front door.
Hit with a massive EMP strike, the West Coast from the Pacific to the Mississippi was left a wasteland of gangs, violence, and burning homes.
Although the eastern half of the country was spared the EMP attack, they were not immune to the second massive wave of terrorist attacks and a reawakening of internal riots and class warfare that had been incited for so many years. The United States, from the Atlantic to the Mississippi, quickly devolved into a quagmire that people were referring to as the “Eastern Chaos.”
While Dave Cavanaugh’s realized vision of the Arks program was a force of good among the chaos, it was a small spark in the face of an evil régime taking power in America.
The rise of evil in America is being led by a false prophet called The Professor, who claimed to represent an American government in hiding. In truth, he harbored devious plans for a new America divided into ten Kingdoms.
Can Dave Cavanaugh’s communities of Arks hold out as a haven of good in an increasingly wicked world?
How far will The Professor go in his evil plans for a new America built upon his ambition?
What kind of life is in store for the populace in this new America after the Rise of Evil?

Dave Cavanaugh’s Arks of America project, designed to be an oasis of calm and a place to preserve medicine, art, and ethics among a sea of chaos, has been corrupted and threatens the balance of power in The Badlands. With no working government and state and local administrations nonexistent, Dave must make a choice that will expose his Arks project and put the lives of his people at risk.
All the while, the eastern half of the country, spared the EMP attack the west had seen, was experiencing a massive wave of terrorist attacks and a reawakening of internal riots and class warfare that had been incited for many years.
With Dave’s attention focused on the Badlands, the eastern U.S. Arks communities were on their own, with some help from Dave’s trusty assistant Louis.

What kind of life is in store for the populace in this new America after the Rise of Evil?
Dave Cavanaugh, the silver haired outdoorsman, mountain hiker, and billionaire dubbed the “Richard Branson of the Rockies,” presses ahead with his audacious plan to build walled, gated communities across the country to preserve art, science, medicine, and religion. These Arks of America are planned to be islands of hope during times of strife, chaos, and uncertainty.
An early investor in the program, Liz Pendleton, the beautiful auburn haired actress from Kentucky, is back at work making movies. Both she and Dave are concerned for Vince Cavanaugh, the billionaire’s nephew, a divorced, gruff ex-Special Forces soldier who’s experiencing a deep personal calamity, leaving him a shell of his former self.
Without Vince the entire Arks of America program could fail.
In the prosperity of the post-chaotic America, the group who so recently survived together is spread across the country when the unthinkable happens again.
Are they prepared to support the people who need them?
Can the government right one more crisis?
Can Vince summon the strength to be the hero they need?
Dave Cavanaugh, a silver haired outdoorsman, mountain hiker, and billionaire, dubbed the “Richard Branson of the Rockies,” sets in motion a plan to construct walled, gated communities across the country to preserve art, science, medicine, and religion, designed to be islands of calm in a sea of chaos. Much like Noah built an ark before the great flood, Dave intends to build a series of land-based arks before the country completely drowns in chaos.
Arks of America.
Vince Cavanaugh, Dave’s nephew, a gruff ex-Special Forces soldier, is urged to take an active role in the project.
Liz Pendleton, a beautiful auburn haired actress from Kentucky now living in Hollywood, is one of the initial investors in the program.
With alternating periods of violence and peace becoming the norm, eventually the periods of chaos get longer and don’t subside.
Where will the violence strike next?
Who will be caught up in it?
Will Dave Cavanaugh’s grand plan be enough and in time?
