For me that moment came early, when a guy from the grade above me said you did good in that school play and patted my back. That was my light bulb moment.
In college I was in the unofficial Gay Student Union. We had to meet off campus grounds. Word of mouth let others know where to meet. I met guys about ready to graduate and get married who already had their light bulb moment, but couldn't be who they were.
When started going to clubs, I made friends with a group of older men, men the age I am now and older who were just now embracing who they were. They all had been married and didn't say anything until their wives died. They loved their wives, but hated themselves for lying to them. They just needed to tell their story to someone young so that we wouldn't make that mistake.
Tim has had his light bulb moment and is not going to hurt Spoiler. If they get back together she will know that he may fall back to Bernard or another guy, and he will know he can tell her. He won't just break it off with her and start dating some guy.
As real as life in superhero comics can be, he's made the right choice and will be stronger for it.

Its exploitation of the lgbtq community for sure. Like blaxploitation back in the day
