This is not an original story--ex-wife hiding out from abusive husband, even while he is in prison, and the H is a tough guy to protect her. It'a been done before, but here are a few things that annoy me: Instead of trying to find ways to out think her ex, Candi resorts to tears, and hollow mantras, which, by the way, is never manifested throughout the book. Also, she has seen Dallas's fighting skills and still she's running off to "protect" him. Sigh. We get Dallas's back story but very little about Candi's. Moreover, what was in her background that allowed her to surrender to her ex husband's physical and sexual abuse? Such behaviors need to be detailed. But most annoying for me is that I don't get a sense that Candi has any goals for her life. Other than marrying a man (fortunately a good one this time), I still don't know what her passion is. But I do know that Dallas's career is moving along nicely. Seems like her character has not grown at all, not a character to root for. Such a shame...
