A Sequel I Never Knew I Needed, Until Now
Verified purchase
Damien has the potential to be one of the best shows currently being produced.
The first episode is all that's available for me to watch so far and that actually makes me a little bit angry.
I never would have expected a television sequel to 1976's The Omen, but I am glad it's happening. Decades after the events of the movie we meet Damien Thorn as a photographer working in Damascus while war is brewing there...and it's there that the horrifying prophecies surrounding his childhood begin to unfold.
What I found the most appealing about the first episode is that they managed to carry over a lot of the same tone and atmosphere of the original movie, even going so far as to provide clips from it as memories that are coming back to Damien, memories he was too traumatized to recall until now. And who wouldn't be traumatized by having their father shot and killed while trying to murder them on the altar of a cathedral, after all?
I wish more of the series was available to watch at the moment...but I suppose I will be patient and wait, since I have no other choice.

He could go on to do great moves as a solid actor

I'm following the show 'religiously' and am so impressed with Bradley James' (Damien) acting. He could go on to do great moves as a solid actor. The whole cast in this TV series is good, they are all carrying the show. This is the kind of series where we will have different favorites. A strong performance by the detective who has been on to Damien from the start. Watch how the detective evolves throughout the season, it's a mind-blower.

The season finale is stupendous. The parallels with Jesus are coming into focus. If you're even a little familiar with the bible, you'll see it, too.

There are some things that don't make sense (within the logic of the show's premise) but this dude is gorgeous. That and interesting character development while good and evil battle it out.

I can see why it was canceled

As a big fan of not only the original movie (remake was hot garbage) and the 2 sequels I had high hopes for this series. But alas it really is terrible. The Damien of this show has almost nothing in common with that of the movies.
In fact the series ignores the stories of Omen 2 and 3 completely. I thought the writing was poor, acting totally sub-par and I wasn't buying the lead actor in the role as Damien for a New York minute. Sam Neill as a grown up Damien in Omen 3 was infinitely more believable. I kept watching, hoping it would get better but it never did. Frankly I was bored watching it and at times it was downright laughable in it's stupidity.

Interesting Take on the Movies
Verified purchase
For the Son of the Devil being so ignorant of his origin and role is a bit hard to believe but it makes for a good story line. Originally Anti-Christ only meant a false or different Christ or Messiah and did not mean a future human civil ruler of ultimate evil along with the false prophet (false religious leader). Just a story like Hercules in NY.

Archetype of all villains!
Verified purchase
I'm not easily creeped out--modern gore and horror either boors me or makes me snigger at it's over the top approach, but this shows dead on recreation of a classic has got me waiting for each new episode.

Who was the man before he became the monster? Will he struggle against his fate, and so have a seed of the tragic, or embrace his darkness and by doing so show us the blossoming of the archetype of all villains?

The Devil is a pretty good guy, yeah sure, very politically correct.

Let's see in the second season, but for now, the incredible situation in this first season,
and what makes it almost impossible to relate to the movie (Damien) is that the Devil, which is clear from the movie that is not even human, is a pretty good guy! full of good feelings and empathy! almost everyone is worse than him... #FACEPALM oh well, let's see if the show, in the second season, evolves in a more credible way.

Bradley James and Barbara Hershey are both good in this
Verified purchase
What do critics know? This is an intriguing take on the antichrist. Although I must admit that it is not what I expected. If the antichrist is so charismatic and adored by the people that he is able to fool them all, I can't help but wonder how they writers are going to get Damien to that point. I am enjoying it. Bradley James and Barbara Hershey are both good in this. In fact, Barbara Hershey is just plain creepy.

Seriously disturbing...and COMPLETELY addictive!
Verified purchase
Although it is extremely graphic and profoundly disturbing, that is exactly what makes Damien one of the best shows I have EVER seen! I waited a tad too long to begin my planned binge-watching of Season 1, and was very surprised that it was no longer available on A&E on Demand. It is August 2016...just a few months after it aired. The Amazon format was amazingly fast, seamless, and the first stop I will make in the future when I set out to watch a full season of any show. Damien is the type of show that sticks with you throughout the day...and forces you to stay up watching WAY past your bedtime. I disagree vehemently with the top negative reviews; I found the writing to be provocative and the acting to be the epitome of creepiness. Barbara Hershey, in particular, gives me nightmares. PLEASE tell me Damien will be back! {running off to research now....}
