It is of course difficult to maintain a plot line over this many books, but the author manages very well. There are additional characters and unfolding plot lines, which can help or lay bare the author’s struggle to draw out the story for money’s sake, but here the new characters and plot lines fit so organically as to seem irrevocably linked, as though the story simply couldn’t be told in fewer books. In this book the plot measurably expands, but without seeming artificial.
Settings are typically sparsely described but with sufficient detail that I can picture them but not so much that it derails the action. The space opera action tends to be more sparse - probably not a bad thing as this seems to be one of the weaker elements. But the space warfare where present is adequate, though certainly not the strength of the series.
All in all, a highly recommended series. I’m much more into more realistic SciFi and yet this has thoroughly roped me in, so if you are remotely interested in this sort of high fantasy superhero action, even if you are more commonly into harder SciFi or into pure fantasy, I urge you to try the four book boxed set.
Well done M. R. Forbes!
small written gems I found one in this book. Of course the meaning is strictly defined by the reader. I think this one will be recognized. It came up on mission at Brighton. My defined meaning for one is when you reading the book and some where a feeling calm show up and you have a reaction to the written scene. Like it said it depends on the reader. All I can say enjoy the book.
Highly recommend MR Forbes books. Job well done.

But I have enjoyed reading your books so much that I have trouble putting them down. Looking forward to reading more. Thank you for the enjoyment.
M.R Forbes (or simply, Mr Forbes) is an exceptional word picture writer. This story comes to us in many layers and it is linked by the strong characterisation and wonderful descriptive writing. I was immediately enthralled with the interactions off all the characters, all tied in with the sometimes unwilling leadership of the not quite perfect Abbey.
With fun, wit and pathos, the writer meshes all these intrinsic instruments into a fantastic and moving epic.
Keep up the glorious writing Mr Forbes, got to go now, number 6 is awaiting...
