I’m torn about this conclusion. Tori is almost overshadowed in this book by all the other strong well-developed characters. Her character development stalls in all the frantic action and focus on others. Mostly, Tori’s role seems to be to recover her people and weapons; both of which are just handed to her. I like that one of these opportunistic weapons is her absent magic, in a return to the clever victories that define this series. But I expected more about Tori confronting her lack of magic and acceptance in a magic world. Somehow all the action without this evolution feels a little empty.
The plot is exciting as all the key characters from both this and the Demonised series return for this final clash. I was thrilled to see Zac back. The male characters in this are heart-breaking; Ezra’s demon half and Zac in particular.
I like that this series is more adult than others from Marie, as signalled by the alcohol theme in the book names. There is finally some romance in this book, but it’s still a minor part to this mostly young adult action adventure.
Four stars for a satisfying conclusion for the plot and happy endings for many characters, but missing something for the over-shadowed heroine.
My only comment is be prepared for a sex scene that is a bit beyond what Annette usually writes in her books. While Annette has always put some sexual situations in her books, this one is more graphic than usual. I squirmed a little, and It made me think twice about letting my pre-teen read it. I think the graphic descriptions could have been less intense and not detracted from an incredible story line. I take off one star for this because I don’t think the ‘trashy romance novel’ descriptions of sexual situations were necessary. Annette’s such a talented writer she doesn’t need it.
Otherwise, a fantastic ending for these loveable characters!
Tori’s last book was beyond amazing. I really hate it’s over but Tori has grown so much over this series. Annette did a great job with her character build. I’m not going to spoil it but I’m so glad we just to find redemption for a beloved character and answers to where that left our favorite foursome.
I really can’t wait for Robins last book! And now we’re getting Zak’s too!! I loved kit in this he’s becoming a favorite fast. Who am I kidding they all are honestly favorites... why choose, right?😂
At 78% completion, I still had no idea how this section of the series would culminate in this same novel but this was phenomenally wrapped up with a sweet, intense ending that made me laugh.
We saw visits from so many characters- good and bad- and story points moved and evolved so quickly I felt like I couldn’t catch my breath at times. Really delighted at how this series ended, and glad to finally know who has the best abs.
By some unfathomable magic, the mages and Tori's bond has become even stronger. It's such a refreshing thing to see a strong friendship without succumbing to unnecessary drama.
I usually have nothing but praise for these books, but in the effort to remain honest I had a few things that irked me.(Obviously not enough to not leave a glowing review)
This is Tori's book(and the mages), I understand that BUT I kept wishing for Tori to reach out to Robin. I feel that she is a key factor in Robin being accepted into the Guild and right now it feels like she's forgotten.
I am so excited that this isn't the end for our friends and cannot wait to see potential cameos in future books. It's a bittersweet close to their chapter, but in an ending they all deserve. Can't wait to see Zylas and Robin's conclusion in a few weeks.

So while Tory’s story has ended, our stay in her world certainly hasn’t, so hang on in there, all is not lost - she’ll be around in the background I’m sure!
This is tautly written, rattles along at a breakneck speed, seemingly backs our heroes and heroine into an impossible situation with no chance of escape, when…. well, things happen, as they do… There’s a big battle, overwhelming odds are faced, griefs are faced, but there’s a quiet thread of warmth and humour running through all these books that stops them getting too dark.
This neatly wraps things up for most of the characters from the Spellbound set of books. Robin, Zylas and Amalia are around to begin with, but then sort of disappear for a chunk, presumably to do what they do in their next book, and Kit and Lienna turn up, with a chunk of back story that needs telling - presumably covered in their next book. The author is doing really well at keeping her strands separate, but intertwined, and she’s been piling them out fast.
Go to the author's web site for the reading order - these books really intertwine!
I can't really say anything without spoiling everything but I can assure you that the usual awesome mix of humour, romance, action and general feels is as top-notch as ever. My only bugbear is that because we are waiting for Robin's story it did feel that some plot points haven't been tied up completely. But then again, that's unavoidable when you're trying to achieve the masterful task of writing several equally awesome intertwining series. I cannot wait for Robin's saga to conclude but will be happily re-reading Tori's adventure in the meantime (because, to be honest, all other books seem to pale in comparison to Annette Marie's writing).
So what are you waiting for?? You need these series in your life, they've been one of the scarce highlights of 2020!
Absolutely cannot wait for Delivering Evil, and then all the other storylines the GC universe has to offer.
