Blog postA friend of mine (@mjcarp2) sent me a painting I did for an assignment I did back in art school 20 years ago, which he modeled for. I illustrated a short story written by Charles Bukowski. At this point I had only been painting in acrylics for a little over a year and was getting used to the medium. I look at this painting now and it just has that quality of finish that says “student work” to me, and yet I can’t express into words why I think that’s the case. Still happy to see it though, and3 weeks ago Read more

Blog postThis happened exactly one year ago today. Five days later the country went into full lockdown. I never imagined the pandemic would have lasted this long, but I also never imagined that we would have multiple vaccine options available and already in distribution. Like a marathon, humanity will dig deep and endure. Fingers crossed we can all gather together like this a year from now. Stay strong, my friends 🙏

From the New York Times–bestselling creator of The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend comes the inspiring epilogue to the beloved classic nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty.
Everyone knows that when Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. But what happened after?
Caldecott Medalist Dan Santat's poignant tale follows Humpty Dumpty, an avid bird watcher whose favorite place to be is high up on the city wall—that is, until after his famous fall. Now terrified of heights, Humpty can longer do many of the things he loves most.
Will he summon the courage to face his fear?
After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again) is a masterful picture book that will remind readers of all ages that Life begins when you get back up.

Sunday quit, just like that. She said she was tired of being a day. And so the other days of the week had no choice but to advertise: "WANTED: A NEW DAY. Must be relaxing, tranquil, and replenishing. Serious inquires only." Soon lots of hopefuls arrived with their suggestions, such as Funday, Bunday, Acrobaturday, SuperheroDay, and even MonstersWhoResembleJellyfishDay! Things quickly got out of hand . . . until one more candidate showed up: a little girl with a thank-you gift for Sunday. The girl suggested simply a nice day--a day to be kind. And her gratitude made a calendar's worth of difference to Sunday, who decided she didn't need to quit after all.
When we appreciate each other a little bit more, all the days of the week can be brand-new days where everything is possible.
This magical story begins on an island far away where an imaginary friend is born. He patiently waits his turn to be chosen by a real child, but when he is overlooked time and again, he sets off on an incredible journey to the bustling city, where he finally meets his perfect match and--at long last--is given his special name: Beekle.
The #1 New York Times bestselling and award-winning author and illustrator Dan Santat--creator of After the Fall and Are We There Yet?--combines classic storytelling with breathtaking art in an unforgettable tale about friendship, imagination, and the courage to find one's place in the world.
Ricky Ricotta lives in Squeakyville with his mom and dad. Ricky has a hard time making friends at school, and the neighborhood bullies are always picking on him. If only Ricky could find someone to be his best buddy and keep those creepy bullies away!
Meanwhile, on the other side of town, a mad scientist named Dr. Stinky McNasty has created a Mighty Robot who is as gentle as he is powerful. Dr. Stinky plans to make the Robot destroy Squeakyville, but there's one little thing in his way: Ricky Ricotta! When Ricky rescues the Robot, an unlikely friendship begins. And Ricky discovers that a little mouse can be a BIG hero -- with some help from his new best friend!
There's nothing better than being buddies with a giant flying Robot. Ricky's Mighty Robot always gets him to school on time, keeps bullies away, and even helps out with homework. These two friends do everything together!
When Mr. Mosquito, a meanie from the planet Mercury, invades Earth with his Mutant Mosquitoes, Ricky and his Robot rush to the rescue. But with the Mighty Robot in deep danger, Ricky will have to be brave on his own to save the day!
When a young boy visits his grandfather, their lack of a common language leads to confusion, frustration, and silence. But as they sit down to draw together, something magical happens -- with a shared love of art and storytelling, the two form a bond that goes beyond words.
With spare text by Minh Lê and luminous illustrations by Caldecott Medalist Dan Santat, this stirring story about reaching across barriers will be cherished for years to come.
"A beautifully told and illustrated story about a grandson and grandfather struggling to communicate across divides of language, age and culture." --- Viet Thanh Nguyen, Pulitzer Prize winner
Don't miss LIFT, also by Minh Lê and Dan Santat!
Why does this wolf think he can come to town and blow all the houses down? These three little pigs just aren't going to take it from that bully anymore! The first starts aikido lessons---he'll make mincemeat out of that wolf! His brother learns a little jujitsu--he'll chop that guy to pieces!
But when the wolf actually appears, it turs out these two pigs aren't quite ready after all. Good thing their sister has been training every day to master some serious karate moves that save the day. KIYA!
Corey Rosen Schwartz serves up a fun combination of smart-aleck dialogue and tongue-in-cheek rhymes that'll have kids howling, and rising star Dan Santat's spunky illustrations are sure to pack a punch!
Ricky and his Mighty Robot have made a mess. They've been mean to Cousin Lucy, and now they must make it up to her. But their surprise present for Lucy turns into a trap when President Penguin from Pluto plots to take over Earth.
President Penguin is peeved because Pluto is no longer considered a real planet. Now he plans to make things very unpleasant for anyone who stands in his way. Can Ricky, Lucy, and their friends defeat this tiny terror and keep Squeakyville safe?
Ricky Ricotta loves his Mighty Robot. They do everything together, but it's sometimes hard for a small mouse to have such a big buddy! If only the Mighty Robot could find someone his own size to play with, Ricky might finally have some fun by himself.
Little does Ricky know, his wish is about to come true. Evil Uncle Unicorn has a top-secret plan to trap the Mighty Robot so that he can take over Earth, and he's got a giant surprise in store. Once again, it's up to Ricky to save the planet -- and his best friend!
Today is Ricky's birthday, and it's off to a great start! After peanut-butter pancakes and presents, Ricky's parents are taking him and his Mighty Robot to see dinosaurs at the museum. And they have a surprise for Ricky: His cousin, Lucy, is coming with them! Ricky thinks Lucy is a real pest. Suddenly, things aren't looking so sunny anymore.
At the museum, there is another surprise in store. General Jackrabbit, an evil genius from the planet Jupiter, is jumping for joy! He has just created three Jurassic Jackrabbits to help him take over Earth. Can Ricky and his Robot beat these big, bad bunnies? Or will this end up the WORST birthday ever?
BEWARE OF CRANKENSTEIN! He's a little monster of crankiness that no one can destroy! MEHHRRRR!!! He may look like any ordinary boy, but when faced with a rainy day, a melting popsicle, or an early bedtime, one little boy transforms into a mumbling, grumbling Crankenstein. When Crankenstein meets his match in a fellow Crankenstein, the results could be catastrophic--or they could be just what he needs to brighten his day! This hilarious and relatable tale of grumpiness gone awry will turn toddler tantrums to giggles in no time.
Don't miss the sequel, ACrankenstein Valentine!
Aaron Reynolds, the author of Nerdy Berdy and Creepy Carrots! teams up with Dan Santat, the Caldecott–winning illustrator behind The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend to create the hilarious, gnarly summer adventure picture book, Dude!
Dude! You have to read this book.
It's totally about this platypus and this beaver who are friends. They want to go surfing but dude, there's this shark who's in the ocean, too.
But don't worry. This shark approaches and you'll never guess what happens.
Kirkus Reviews named this one of their "BEST PICTURE BOOKS OF 2018" for a good laugh!
