Trish Bailey is a young, widowed, art teacher who has moved in with her mother to help her after her mother sustained serious injuries in a car accident. This accident also took the life of her father and her husband. Trish’s parents are wealthy and have set up a charitable foundation that her mother still administers on a monthly basis by meeting with the foundation’s accountant. Trish’s mother also asks Trish to sit in on these meetings so she knows what is going on with the foundation. This accountant has asked Trish out on a couple of dates and Trish accepted, but felt no spark of attraction. Trish is stressed out with teaching, taking care of her mother, arranging her mother’s caretakers when Trish is at work, as well as being involved with the foundation. So, it is natural she might be a bit forgetful sometimes, right? You’ll have to read the story to see how this plays out!
Once again, Irene Hannon as written a spellbinding, tension-filled tale with a romance included. I have read most of her trilogies and find them to be engaging and easy to get involved with, and this first book in this trilogy is no exception. I soon became invested in the two main characters’ lives and emotions, watching their romance develop as well as reliance on faith. The faith element in Irene’s stories is evident throughout, but not overwhelming. Faith is woven into the story naturally. I thought the plot well done with a surprise or two. This book will make a great Christmas gift, whether to yourself or to someone who likes a great story!
This is such a fantastic suspense I hardly know where to start. Irene gives the readers bits and pieces of her mystery puzzle and makes them feel like they are "behind the scenes" and "in the know" on a real life crime scene. I usually figure things out fairly soon in to suspense books, but I have to admit, I did not see the twists and turns coming, which only added to the suspenseful excitement. Dangerous Illusions is a real page-turner, so hold on to your seat! The chemistry between detective Colin Flynn and teacher Trish Bailey adds just the right amount of romantic attraction while they try to solve the mystery of how her mother died, and from there, other pieces of the puzzle that don't add up. Hannon has given readers a first class suspense and romance all in one!
Dangerous Illusions is such a great story, I'm glad it's only the first of three books in this series. There are three in this group of childhood friends who have supported each other throughout their lives. Book two will be about friend Kristin and book three about their other buddy Rick.
Until the next Code of Honor book releases, I'll be waiting on Pelican Point, book four in the Hope Harbor series that releases in April of 2018. Irene is a favorite must-read author who has only gotten better and better with each book she writes.
Trish has had a lot of tragedy in her life recently and with the unexpected death of her mother, how much more can she handle? Colin has decided he doesn’t want his life complicated by love so other than his two childhood friends he keeps his relationships on the surface, then he’s assigned to Trish’s case. With the Russian mafia and a killer on the loose can he keep Trish safe without crossing over the boundaries he set for himself?
With heart pounding suspense and chemistry to spare this is a great read from start to finish.
Code of Honor #1
By Irene Hannon
When Trish Bailey's life starts to overwhelm her she starts making mistakes. But when one mistake leads to a tragedy Trish's life seems to close in around her. And then when her actions come under police scrutiny Trish can't believe that she could be charged with the murder of a loved one. Even worse is having to live with the knowledge that her error cost a life.
Called to the scene of an unexpected death, Detective Colin Flynn is tasked with determining whether or not Trish Bailey made a mistake or a deliberate decision in the death of her mother.
But something even more sinister is in play and all too soon more than one life is in danger. As Colin, with the help of Mac McGregor, works through the mounting evidence and the ever-growing list of questions he finds himself drawn to Trish.
Irene Hannon has debuted a new series with Dangerous Illusions and fans will love that she has again placed the story in the St. Louis area. There is a definite psychological element at play in this one and as to the whodunit, this is a real WOW. If this book is any indication this series will be real page-turners that will keep the reader up into the wee hours of the night.
If you love mystery with a twist give this book a try!
