worst rajni movie in the recent times
Verified purchase
Good stuff - very glad to see so many people in Mumbai and Thailand speak fluent tamil.

Bad stuff (list is long)
- Kabali, Robo 2.0, Kaala, Petta all had decent or good story lines. This one has absolutely no story line.
- As for the music, Anirudh has made a Annamalai 2.0 for this movie (Anirudh has quiet frankly stolen the copy cat status from our beloved Deva).
- Rajni and Nayanthara love sequences are a total waste of time and it sucks to watch that kind of age difference even try to romance on big screen - not sure who came up with those awkward scenes.
- Yogibabu tried hard to have some comedy but simply him on the sidelines of a senior actor like Rajni looked awkward and no good punch lines.
- Climax was a complete joke.
- Never knew commissioner of a city had so much powers. Nonsense logic.

Classic Rajini Movie
Verified purchase
I was little apprehensive to watch this movie based on the reviews from people here. Waited for the story to tank throughout but I can say this movie is probably one of Rajini's recent acceptable and palatable movies. The Daughter Father relationship, was emotional & funny. He did a good job as an elderly father and an older romantic partner for Nayan. For those complaining about the age difference - I think they may not be regular Tamil movie watchers coz I find it a lil difficult to accept Meena & (Uncle) Rajini pair than Nayan - Rajini.

All in all - Songs were good, First half was funny setting the mood and good pace for the action packed second half. What more can you ask for in a Rajini movie ? (BTW do you remember the mosquito scene in Enthiran - nothing cringe worthy like that in this movie)

Rajni should stop acting

Seriously Rajni should stop acting. He has enough money to last generations. In the end we suffer watching such a garbage movies. What a crap movie. He went from super star to sucker star. don't waste your time watching this. I regret watching this., at least I didn't pay for it.

Rajnikanths ivory tower is his own cage!
Verified purchase
Talented actors when put on an ivory tower sooo tall from which they can never come down, Darbar is the kind of movie which shows what will happen to them!!!
They are inside a cage! It is certainly made of gold and ivory surrounded by the praise and adoration of fans all around the world, but alas they are trapped inside this tower . Movies like this with out any substance are made to glorify the star who is trapped inside and the fans are not doing any good to the star by supporting this kind of movies.

Superstar - Superhero

This has some interesting twists and turns and a unique philosophy that some may or may not agree with. However, it is pure spectacular fun and excitement. If you want action and charm, then Rajini in Darbar definitely delivers. I enjoyed it not only for its sheer entertainment value but in its capacity to consider the frustration of being in a society where justice is so hard to achieve for everyone. I highly recommend it. In real life, there may not be an easy solution to certain problems, but this movie helps you imagine what could happen if there were.

Outdated and Rajini from 25 years ago.

Rajini should evolve and do characters that suit his age. Amitabh is doing it. Chiranjeevi is trying. His last 4 movies are all without much content and just showing off his once popular histrionics. Too bad he is still sticking to same formula. I am surprised to see a director like Marugadoss made this bad film.

Expected more from Rajani movie.
Verified purchase
Probably made specifically Tamil masses. Nothing interesting except valiant attempt by Rajani to make it a decent movie. Worst part is the Telugu translations (starting from the 0th minute you see tons of wrong Telugu, bad Telugu, or some style of Telugu that nobody speaks o writes. Probably the cheapest translators and amateurs did the work). Story is not strong. Meaningless song sequences. Absurd comedy. Overall, I thought I would have enjoyed Tamil version better (you don't need to understand much in this anyway).

Far from Perfect, but worth a watch!

I liked the movie. It was over dramatic but I simply enjoyed and respect that Rajinikanth made a comeback and looked terrific. The story was weak. Some scenes were a bit awkward with his younger love interest but I loved the homage to his older style. Used to watch his movies when I was kid in the 80s and this brought back some good memories. I see people saying his style does not work now but to me it does not matter. It's just paying respect to the olden days. However, I do think the ending could have been better. It lacked a more climactic finish. Somewhat predictable. Still, worth the watch if you are a fan of Rajinikanth.
