"The action was intense and kept me on the edge of my seat! Barbara Freethy is an amazing writer who captures the reader's attention from the very first sentence, so much so, I read this book in one sitting." 5 Stars! Booklover's Anonymous
He didn't just break her heart, he broke her soul…
When a bomb exploded at her college, Caitlyn Carlson's life changed in an instant. Ten years later, she's no longer a vulnerable, trusting girl, but a tough, ruthless, FBI agent. But her hard exterior covers a deep, aching hole in her heart.
Quinn Kelly has changed his life, too, trying to make up for the horrific mistakes of his youth. But some mistakes can't be outrun or forgiven. Some feelings don't stay buried, no matter how hard you try.
An explosion at a local university takes them back to the past, to the one place they never wanted to go again…and to each other. They barely survived loving each other the first time around. The secrets and lies almost killed them. Will this be their second chance, or will this be the end of everything?

(WARNING: SOME SPOILERS AHEAD!) The first bomb injured Caitlyn, caused her to miscarry her 11-week-old fetus, and drove Quinn out of her life for ten years, but how many times do we have to relive that tragic event? Once or twice should be sufficient, but they think about it and talk about it over and over! This stuff could've been covered in just a few pages, which would reduce the book's length considerably.
Repetitive dialogue aside, we're treated to interviews with all the folks suspected of setting off that first bomb and the second one ten years later. Reunited at last, Caitlyn (now an FBI agent) and Quinn (a professional diver) team up to catch the alleged perpetrators--environmental extremists who plan to stop capitalists from destroying the planet.
The main perpetrator in the first bomb explosion is already dead, but red herrings pop up everywhere: Kevin, Tim, Allison, Lauren, Wyatt, Hank, Vinnie, Vitaly, Justin, Spencer, Gary, and yes--even Quinn himself. When Caitlyn and Quinn aren't grieving over their lost baby and rehashing past mistakes, they're busy sorting through the long list of suspects. Exciting? Nope. Even a couple of obligatory sex scenes fail to generate much excitement.
(Question: Are FBI agents authorized to break into a residence without a warrant and hold a resident at gunpoint? Are they authorized to break in and sort through personal belongings, taking stuff that might or might not be incriminating? Caitlyn does this without hesitation.)
Finally, in Chapter 24, the crazy evildoers kidnap Caitlyn and her father, intending to kill them and blow up a tower in downtown San Francisco to save the world from the capitalists. Quinn rushes to the rescue. Will he succeed? I'm not saying. Chapters 25 through 27 contain a bit of excitement, but not enough to make the whole story worth reading. Chapter 28 concludes with more dull conversation. I'm just glad it's over.
Kudos for flawless proofreading (always appreciated), which raises my rating from one star to two.
