While checking in Bryn notices Caiden Verran, the billionaire owner of the hotel and their eyes lock. For some reason Caiden is very drawn to her. The two end up spending time together and the next morning find themselves married! OK....a quick annulment and it will be over. When Caiden heads to New York for a business meeting he gets suddenly sick. That's when they realize that the sickness is because of the distance he is from Bryn. He must stay within a certain distance of her at all times. Caiden's men go and get Bryn and bring her to his mansion. Bryn does not understand why she is being held prisoner and is not happy. Once Bryn finally gets an understanding of what is going on, they realize that someone is trying to kill Caiden. Now the two of them will work together to try and figure out who that person is. Of course the more time Bryn and Caiden spend together, the more real feelings start to appear. Even the marriage with benefits arrangement is getting hotter as Caiden introduces Bryn to many new things. As Caiden is realizing what is going on, Bryn's life seems to be in danger. Deep down these two love each other so much that they want to protect the other even if it means losing their own life. As certain other realizations come to light, life as they both know it will suddenly change. Now these two need to hold on because they will be in for the ride of their lives.

I just freaking loved this very steamy fantasy romance. It had so many fun twists and turns I could not put this book down. I loved Caiden. This man is just so sensual and bossy. I also really enjoyed Bryn. She may have started out as a fragile thing but in the end she showed her true strength. I also love the sneak peak into Tiernan's story! I can't wait!

This was my first by Gina L. Maxwell. Even though this was published this year, this book was on my TBR list for a while before that. Bryn Meara stumbles into Vegas after she loses her job as a PR specialist. Caiden Verran is a billionaire who happens to own the hotel they're in, as well as half of Vegas. They spend the night together celebrating her unemployment, only to wake up married the next morning - with no memory of how they got there. To top it all off, Bryn discovers Caiden is actually a Dark Fae king and she's stuck in his world until they can reverse their vows. I really loved the premise of this one and might have held on to high expectations for it. Maxwell created a beautifully dark world underneath that typical Vegas vibe. I enjoyed watching Bryn put Caiden in his place whenever he tried to walk all over her. Their transition from enemies to lovers made me laugh at times and want to cry at others. It was great to learn about the cast of Fae royalty and the circumstances of their people’s banishment. I'm excited for book 2, which centers around one of Caiden’s brothers and continue some plot points from book 1. (4/5 rating)

When I tell you I couldn’t put this book down I’m not kidding. I loved everything about this book! The dynamic between Bryn and Caiden is so fun. They bring out so much in each other. I would go from being mad at them to loving them. Sometimes in the same chapter. And I really love how Gina could portray that. I loved the fae aspect of the story. The spice was next level hot and I felt my face blush at certain parts. The sex wasn’t the main focus of the story which I thought was nice. Don’t get me started on the ending. It left me eager for more of the series. Also the audiobook is fire as well. This book will be one I read over and over and recommend to all my friends. I can’t wait for book 2

I just finished The Dark King and…I have such a bad book hangover. I had seen this book all over Instagram and TikTok so I knew I would have to check it out. I kept seeing that it was a contemporary Hades/Persephone retelling (that information alone is enough to interest me) with a dash of Fifty Shades of Grey. Color me intrigued.

I was unprepared for how much I would absolutely fall for our heroine Bryn and the Dark King himself, Caiden Verran. Bryn is passionate, funny, and hopelessly out of her depth when she's approached in a Vegas casino by the enigmatic and mysterious owner of the Strip, Caiden. What starts as a flirtation quickly gets out of hand when they both wake up the next morning with no memories and wedding rings on their fingers.

This book genuinely had it all - it was funny, captivating, heartwarming, and yes, very spicy. Watching as Bryn confronted her new reality (Fae are real?! And she married the King of the Night Court!?) put me in fits of laughter and awe. I can tell you right now, I wouldn't have the grace in the same situation. Her skill with connecting to the people around her is honestly a talent I'm envious of.

Caiden, King of the Night Court is so used to being closed off. He has grown up with the idea that he will never be able to have a normal marriage or fall in love because of the curse that was placed on his people. His inability to control his emotions around Bryn was adorable and ensured that the sexual tension between the two continued to build...watching him lose that control was even better.

Bryn and Caiden's story was a story that captured me from the beginning and I loved every minute of it. I fell in love both with them and the people of the Night Court like Fiona and Caiden's brothers Tiernan and Finnian.

There is a strong BDSM elements in the spicy scenes that lit my kindle on fire. If you like praise, degradation, light pain, and a D/s relationship, Bryn and Caiden's story has that in spades!

The last chapter gives a look at what the next will be about and I genuinely cannot WAIT. Can I pre-order it now? I'll just be over here re-reading that last chapter until I can get my hands on The Rebel King...

If Neon Gods and ACOTAR had a baby, the baby would be The Dark King. Full of lust, mystery, high stakes, a possessive MMC and a FMC who refuses to stand for BS, this book is exciting and incredibly hot. Did I read this in one sitting? Yes, The Dark King draws you in and refuses to let you go until you’ve finished the book. The tension between the MCs was top tier, and the scenes that followed… have some ice on hand.

I loved Gina L. Maxwell’s take on the fae world and how the fantasy realm works into the human world, this is a fun standalone read. My only complaint is that this isn’t a series. I’d love to continue to follow the MCs in this book, I need MORE. (There is another book, but that’s an interconnected standalone with different MCs).
