About the author

I write comic books! Growing up, I always wanted to write comics, but I ended up trying my hand at fiction first. I got my MFA from Columbia University, published a book of short stories with The Dial Press in 2006 called Voodoo Heart, then finally broke into comics in 2009 and haven't looked back since. I've worked extensively for DC Comics, writing such titles as Batman, Detective Comics, Justice League, the comic event books DC Dark Knights Metal and Death Metal, and Swamp Thing, among others. I've also created a number of series with some great co-creators and partners -- books like We Have Demons, Clear, Night of the Ghoul, Nocterra, American Vampire, Wytches, the Wake, AD: After Death, and more... I live in NY with my wife, Jeanie and our three boys. I am also a big fan of Elvis Presley.

Dark nights death metal is a very beautiful graphic novel. It looks great on the shelf.
It came in undamaged.
In order to fully enjoy this story, please read the justice league volume one through five by Scott Snyder. If you wanted to skip, you could theoretically just read volume five, and than jump to this.

The whole thing is, as a result, a boring disjointed mess. Art is OK though.

The book took me a bit by surprise as I did think this might have been a bit of a gag book rather than the conclusion to the Metal storyline. The Batman Who Laughs unleashes his most ambitious end game. I really like the continuity by including the Doomsday book storyline here as well. Even though the heroes or even the world is no longer at it's best this world is not going down without a fight. However how many losses can even the greatest warriors that before they start to lose heart.
I did really like this book the bit that did a note about it us that in between certain chapters it seen there was another mini story or book. If these are small thing on fine you can get the book to fill in the details but some of these things were big. All I'm all quite a satisfying conclusion or a new beginning, depending on the point of view.

I really enjoyed the Dark Nights: Metal story and couldn't wait to see where the writers would take it from there, and I was not disappointed. This was a fantastic read with stunning artwork! (I must point out that it's definitely worth checking out the other Death Metal books to fully enjoy the series)

Typical Snyder if he continues to tell a story it must be a bigger tale with wider impact. So the Batman Who Laughs is back, more threatening than ever, to destroy the DC multiverse and create his own dark multiverse. So it is up to Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman with the support of many DC heroes and villains to stop him. So we get plenty of weird Batmen, a multiverse always on the brink of destruction, huge battle scenes, and different heroes and villains from strange worlds of the multiverse. And of course the story will change the face of the DC universe.
Good to know, you can read the story without all the tie-in comics. Nevertheless it doesn‘t hurt if you are familiar with the history of the DC multiverse and the Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis storylines. Snyder uses these stories to weave his own storyline of universal proportions.
While Death Metal is an entertaining read there are some bothering aspects. Snyder’s writing style with abrupt scenery changes sometimes makes you read passages twice to get the meaning. I also find his pseudo philosophical explanations for certain events annoying because it doesn’t make the plot intelligible but cheesy.
As always Greg Capullo‘s artwork is just gorgeous. If you like his style you won‘t be disappointed. Highly detailed drawings and crazy ideas prove why he is one of the top artists.
Finally, the printing of my copy is partially really bad - especially in the last chapter there are many unreadable pages. I have sent my copy back. Hopefully the next one will be printed qualitatively better.
