I write comic books! Growing up, I always wanted to write comics, but I ended up trying my hand at fiction first. I got my MFA from Columbia University, published a book of short stories with The Dial Press in 2006 called Voodoo Heart, then finally broke into comics in 2009 and haven't looked back since. I've worked extensively for DC Comics, writing such titles as Batman, Detective Comics, Justice League, the comic event books DC Dark Knights Metal and Death Metal, and Swamp Thing, among others. I've also created a number of series with some great co-creators and partners -- books like We Have Demons, Clear, Night of the Ghoul, Nocterra, American Vampire, Wytches, the Wake, AD: After Death, and more... I live in NY with my wife, Jeanie and our three boys. I am also a big fan of Elvis Presley.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good comic, really bad printing
Reviewed in Germany on April 25, 2021
Dark Nights: Death Metal is the sequel to Dark Nights: Metal and delivers the same over the top action and entertaining fun as the prievious collaboration between Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo.

Typical Snyder if he continues to tell a story it must be a bigger tale with wider impact. So the Batman Who Laughs is back, more threatening than ever, to destroy the DC multiverse and create his own dark multiverse. So it is up to Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman with the support of many DC heroes and villains to stop him. So we get plenty of weird Batmen, a multiverse always on the brink of destruction, huge battle scenes, and different heroes and villains from strange worlds of the multiverse. And of course the story will change the face of the DC universe.

Good to know, you can read the story without all the tie-in comics. Nevertheless it doesn‘t hurt if you are familiar with the history of the DC multiverse and the Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis storylines. Snyder uses these stories to weave his own storyline of universal proportions.

While Death Metal is an entertaining read there are some bothering aspects. Snyder’s writing style with abrupt scenery changes sometimes makes you read passages twice to get the meaning. I also find his pseudo philosophical explanations for certain events annoying because it doesn’t make the plot intelligible but cheesy.

As always Greg Capullo‘s artwork is just gorgeous. If you like his style you won‘t be disappointed. Highly detailed drawings and crazy ideas prove why he is one of the top artists.

Finally, the printing of my copy is partially really bad - especially in the last chapter there are many unreadable pages. I have sent my copy back. Hopefully the next one will be printed qualitatively better.
