Great series

Love the series each one only lasts 20 min which are overpriced at 1.99 each. Iam getting the beginning Dark Shadows discs on Netflix & this one had a very long waiting period. So to see these ones it cost me almost 20.00. Amazon can be alittle greedy i feel they should not clog up the main prime video page with movies not part of the prime family. How much money do you really need? Amazon offers the first season of this series on prime as well as the 3rd & 6th. Other than that you either have to buy from them or go elsewhere to see it. Amazon also offers the Dark Shadows series starting with #210 so like i said it leaves you looking elsewhere for the pre 210 as well as the end of series. This stops around 1967 or 1968 but ran into the 1970's. A true fan has to do alot of leg work to watch.

No volume from series 4 on.......

Bought the series with the hope that the volume would get better. Series 4 the volume craps out really low and was not worth the effort of buying. Ending up buying the CDs instead

Wishing it was on Prime. We have a lot of episodes to go. The price for the season is a bit much for us to justify.

Dark Shadows Addict
What a great old series. Most casual fans don't even know that there were several seasons before the classic Barnabas era. The first few seasons cleverly lay the foundations for what came later in the most popular years. There is no production budget to speak of, no special effects, only a handful of sets to tell the entire saga, no explosions, and this is not for people with short attention spans. Just great storytelling and a perpetually dark, gloomy atmosphere that can serve as a nice escape from your daily grind. The team behind this series successfully wring every last ounce of tension and intrigue out of a thin framework. And near the end of Season 3, things really start hitting the fan. Great acting from the main characters, my favorites being the notorious BURKE DEVLIN!, who could have been a perfect Twilight Zone or film noir villain, the stuffy, pompous, borderline alcoholic Uncle Roger Collins, conflicted matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the beautiful but naive Carolyn Collins, the lumbering ogre Matthew Morgan, and the anchorless soul Victoria Winters, who stumbled upon this family full of secrets and narrates the beginning of each episode. Most of the actors played multiple characters over the course of the series, and you can see them in other popular movies and TV also.

The segments of each episode were recorded live without a net. Kind of like a gothic stage soap opera. It's funny to see the actors stumble with their lines fairly often and have to recover---they did this 100% straight, no humor or sarcasm when they flub a line. That alone makes it very funny! You'll probably spend plenty of time on the edge of laughter at some of the campy scenes, especially when Burke or Matthew or Roger go on long winded, sometimes drunken rants, thunder crashing darkly in the background LOL...

Best to watch this either at night or on overcast or rainy days. Wouldn't seem right otherwise. So make yourself some New England clam chowder and coffee and veg out as if you were at the hotel diner or The Blue Whale watching the freak show unfold. Easy to absorb multiple episodes at a time and forget about the present for a while.

Loved watching until...
I loved watching this series on tv growing up and was very happy to find it here. I was having a great time watching it again until all of a sudden amazon wanted me to pay $1.99 an episode to keep watching. I am very angry at this and very disappointed I can't watch the rest of the episodes, I can not afford to pay for them. My monthly payment to prime is already a luxury for me.
