Zombies, mind control, no Damien. This was by far a disappointment. Waited on pins and needles for next book and I got a space opera/magic/walking dead mash up. Zombies are ridiculous and were so out of place in this world you've built, come on man, you are capable of so much more.
I think there needs to be a new spin-off series with Rosalyn. I was expecting a book that at least had Damian in it most of the time. Damien was in the last book almost 50% of the time in this book it is like 1%. Like I said I like Rosalyn I just can't wait for Damien to get back to the stars. If not that I expect to see some aliens in the next book.
Btw the next book is called Mage-Commander out in Fall 2022.
I'm basing this on the Patreon ARC. I bought the kindle version to further help the author.
As for the story, a very weak zombie story. The bulk of the story is rehashing the same things over and over and over and over and over..."There are 1000's of zombies, but we can't kill them because their innocents too!! Can I signal virtue any harder!!?!"
That the Mage-Queen and Damian would chose Roslyn to take the investigation into the missing MISS operatives makes NO SENSE. Roslyn has no training in investigations. She doesn't have training in the languages and culture of the planet. She doesn't have the life experience plan her actions appropriately.
Because of her inexperience, she causes the initial bomb and infection to occur. A more experienced investigator would have found a way to look before they leaped.
Because of her inexperience, she charges into the lion's den so the upgraded infection can be released. A more experienced investigator would been more subtle and found ways to isolate the lab before storming it.
In the end she's rewarded for being indirectly responsible for killing 1000's of people and hailed as a hero. I REALLY do not like Roslyn Chambers. She was pretty cool in the beginning, but now she's yet another forgettable Mary Sue.

By changing from Damian to Roslyn as the main character this book doesn't have the readability of the previous books. So much so that I have not been able to finish it.
I just hope that the author goes back to Damian to continue the series so that he can defeat the protagonists that have been hinted at in the earlier books.
If future books don't pick up the enjoyabiliy of the earlier ones I know I'll not be buying anymore, and just keep rereading the ones I love.
Note: I received a free electronic copy in exchange for an unbiased review (but liked it enough to buy a copy anyway)
Overall the book was a fine easy read but it didn’t grab me as much as some of the others and did slightly drag on. Any more of these “fillers”, would make me give up on the series, which I have really enjoyed up to here.
