One hundred and fifty years ago, a terrible curse descended on the Wilcox clan, dooming generations of women to an early death should they bear a child to the bloodline of Jeremiah Wilcox. Now Angela McAllister is carrying Connor Wilcox's child, and if she can't find a way to break the curse, that same doom will fall upon her.
The solution to her dilemma lies somewhere in the past - her own, and that of the woman who cast the curse so many years before. Angela's quest to find the answers she needs will transform the lives of everyone she knows, Wilcox and McAllister alike, and will forever change everything she has ever believed about herself.

One of my favorite parts of this novel was Angela. She has been a favorite character of mine since the beginning, but she truly comes into her own in this novel. I loved how well she embraced her powers, and strived to learn more about not only make herself stronger, but also to resolve the major situation at hand. Angela is fighting against the clock in this novel, and as time counts down, she makes decisions that effect everyone around her. She is such a strong, brave heroine that never loses her sense of humor or sass even when the outlook to the situation is downright depressing. Connor comes back very quickly, and his character is better than ever. The romance between Connor and Angela is hot and steamy, but they balance each other out in regular life so well. They are definitely meant for each other, and you can easily tell how much they both truly care for each other. Despite the bleak future that they face, they never let it get them down. They fight together, and come out even stronger.
Set against several beautiful backdrops, Darkmoon is a fabulous adventure that will take you on an exciting thrill ride- one you will never want to get off of. As I said, all the loose ends are tied up, you find out even more information surrounding the Wilcox clan, and there are plenty of jaw dropping moments that will leave you stunned. You think you know things now and have it all figured out? Trust me, you have no idea what's about to happen. I highly recommend reading this book (and the series in general) if you are a fan of Ms. Pope, or just looking for a great witch/warlock story. Happy reading :)
The story of Angela, new prima of her clan, and the task of finding her consort is fraught with the suspense of a young woman's desires and the traditions of her clan. Just when you think the story is going in one direction it takes a little turn and has you nodding in agreement or annoyance.
I won't ruin the story for those who still don't know who Angela's consort is or what role the Wilcox clan plays in her life. But I will say that for those who love a little magic thrown into a love story then you should be quite pleased with this one.
"A Little Magic" is definitely the correct phrase when referring to this series. If you'd like more magic and a show of everyone's powers then you may be a bit disappointed with this read. Although you get a glimpse of the powers it isn't a book where that is what's most important.
Each book is a quick, easy read.
"Darkmoon" was a great conclusion to Angela's and Connor's tale! Christine Pope delivered a well-written story complete with action and imaginative plot twists.
I loved this installment of "The Witches of Cleopatra Hill". The prima, Angela McAllister, is in trouble. Thanks to the decades-old Wilcox curse, she might not live to see her unborn child grow up. Her mission? Break the curse with no idea as to how to do it.
Details, details, details...Pope gives plenty of descriptive details in "Darkmoon". It was so good that it brought back memories of my cross-country trip from California. When Angela complained about the traffic coming to California, I remembered my first encounter with it. Even Pope's details about the Arizona weather were dead-on.
The animosity between clans was summed up by Angela this time--the Hatfields and the McCoys. In "Darkmoon", the Wilcoxes are the Hatfields and the McCoys are the McAllisters. If you read the historical information, it appears that a misunderstanding sparked the Hatfield/McCoy feud. Well, we have a repeat here. All of the miseries between the two clans were a result of a serious misunderstanding.
I especially loved how Angela and Connor grew into their roles. Neither of them wanted to be the head of their respective clans. They could have easily rebelled and been selfish about the situation. Fortunately, they matured and discovered just how powerful they could be together.
Pope's supportive characters are so strong that the next two books are devoted to a few of them. I had a hard time identifying an antagonist in this book. It was too obvious in Book 2. In "Darkmoon", the antagonist is more of an inanimate object (the curse) instead of a person. In the last quarter of the book, the antagonist is finally personified (or maybe 'specter-fied').
If you've enjoyed the first two books about "The Witches of Cleopatra Hill", I'm sure you'll appreciate this one. And, be sure to pick up Book 4 before you finish this one.

Just a note, unlike some trilogies you can not read this without reading the other two, as 2 & 3 literally start in the same scene as the previous book ended, so you would have no idea what was going on! I have seen there are two more books in the series, but with different main characters, so the first three books can stand alone as a trilogy if you don't wish to read the final two books.

It was easy reading and as I said I enjoyed it.
