Book Two in the Ancient Enemy series.

After a rancher finds ten mutilated bodies at an archaeological dig site on the Navajo Reservation, both Captain Begay of the Navajo Tribal Police and Special Agent Palmer of the FBI become involved . . . but the case leads Palmer back to Colorado where five more mutilated bodies and Stella's vehicle have been discovered at a burning cabin.

Mark Lukens has been writing since the second grade when his teacher called his parents in for a conference because the ghost story he'd written concerned her a little.

Since then he's had several stories published and four screenplays optioned by producers in Hollywood. He is the author of many bestselling books including: the Ancient Enemy series, the Dark Days post-apocalyptic series, Sightings, Devil's Island, The Exorcist's Apprentice, Followed, and more. He is a member of The Horror Writers Association.

He grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida. But after many travels and adventures, he settled down near Tampa, Florida with his wonderful wife and son . . . and two stray cats they adopted.

After reading the Mark Lukens novel Ancient Enemy, I immediately set the rest of my TBR list aside and purchased the sequel. The author claims that this novel could be read as a stand-alone, and I would agree with that premise. However, as a continuation of the original storyline, it is an excellent companion tale.

After the horror experienced by Stella, Cole and David at the hands of the Ancient Enemy in the first novel, they attempt to find the one man able to teach young David how to harness his power and send the demonic force back to wherever it came from. In addition to avoiding the demon's myriad tools, our protagonists are also being hunted by law enforcement in two states, as well as the determined Special Agent Palmer of the FBI.

Lukens has again created a masterful story, with a fantastic cast of characters and a cover-to-cover tale of supernatural horror. The story moves at a frantic pace, without giving the reader time to catch their breath, just like our heroes. The story ends with a very satisfactory conclusion, with no loose ends. I can foresee a prequel, however, with an origin story of the Ancient Enemy. My only complaint with the tale is that Agent Klein wasn't one of the victims, haha (read the book and you'll agree).

After reading the first book I definitely wanted a sequel. It simply felt like it needed a conclusion. Well, Mr. Lukens provided us with that and it is a well written, awesome, scary, and at times terrifying. i loved it. I started reading and could not put the book down; I simply had to see how it ended, seeming to hold my breath until the very last word. While Darkwind Ancient Enemy 2 can be read as a stand alone, the beginning was a seamless continuation of the first book Ancient Enemy. I applaud the author for that.

One of the reviewers mentioned that Mr. Lukens writing reminds them of Stephen King. I totally agree. They both have what it takes to keep the reader glued to the book. Time becomes endless with Mr. Lukens books. Thank you for a great read. Mr. Lukens, you write this kind of book so well, it would be awesome if you continued on this theme ones that are similar.

I liked this book a lot. But, unlike most of the other reviewer, I did not like it as much as the first book. The difference? The first book was short, succinct, full of horror and, most of all, unexplained. Now, sometimes you like it when a story like this has a resolution. In this case, I feel the first book was superior because it left it unexplained and ambiguous. It also didn't have a drawn out storyline. After a short build up, it moved quickly from one horror to another. The last sentence left you wondering. I loved it and gave it five stars. This book was a bit too pat. Although you obviously couldn't predict everything that happened in the book, I felt that the ending was predictable and inevitable. Also a bit too tidy. Whereas the first book left much up in the air, this one did the opposite and did a lot of explaining. I thought that took some of the horror out. If you like things to come to a tidy and explained conclusion, you might like this book better than the first. If not, I would stop with the first book. In either case, I would definitely read the original Ancient Enemy before I read this one. However, I enjoyed both of them.

The first book in this 2 book series was frightening in the extreme. This one...not so much. I keep thinking Mark Lukens could have incorporated this in the first book easily. How many times does one need to name the contents of a guys shaving kit before one just writes: Joe Blow grabbed his shaving kit and entered the bathroom. Way too much repetition in this book; as if the author was padding the story to fill two books instead of one. The story comes to a conclusion in a satisfactory way, however, but you will wonder why on earth you had to read so much padding and repetition to get there.

Then we get back to the main characters, it keeps cutting back to these mundane characters and losing any suspense. Also spends WAy too much time on stuff that just doesn't matter.
