About Darlene Holt
Beneath Darlene’s sweet exterior lies a darkness that fans the flames of her horrific tales. Darlene’s love for the macabre stems from authors whose stories filled her childhood, from the twisted mind of Edgar Allan Poe to the terrifying brilliance of Stephen King. Darlene is a writer, editor, and educator with an MA in English and Creative Writing. She currently resides in San Diego, California, where she enjoys reading and writing horror stories while spending time with her husband and cats. Prepare to be scared with her contributions to Eerie River Publishing’s Dark Magic drabble collection, Red Cape Publishing’s A - Z of Horror: J is for Jack-O’-Lantern, and Black Hare Press’ 666 Dark Drabbles anthology.

We all have a fascination for things that scare us—the thrill, the heart-stopping jump scares, the terrifying suspense. From the youngest age, we’re fascinated by the fiendish and furry, the creepiest critters, the naughty and the nasty. Horror is all around us, from the clowns who hide under our bed, to the things we might drag up from the brook at the bottom of the garden, and the zombies who crawl our streets.
As author, Megan Feehley, so beautifully says; there is beauty just before the terror…a silken breath taken before the spill of righteousness…the warmth of a licking flame preceding the scald.
So, close the drapes, check the locks, turn on all the lights and get comfortable. But don’t close your eyes…
Never close your eyes...
Ghosts. The souls of the dead. Tied by gossamer threads—trapped between this world and the next, just beyond the veil.
Sometimes death isn’t the end. Sometimes it's just the beginning.

Dark Magic is a collection of over two hundred bite-size drabbles of dark fantasy and horror.
Enter a world of curses and creatures, the hideous and the hexed, where love is cruel and victory is tainted. Where gods and demons hold sway over mortals, senses are enticed and spirits ensnared. Angels fall, dragons rise, shadows hide secrets and power comes from blood and bone and death itself.
