3.0 out of 5 starsGood characters, enjoyable read  By Gayle Carline I enjoyed this story. Betsy and her family and friends are people Ilike spending time with, and the author has painted the unrelentingIndian summer of Texas perfectly. The mystery is a good one, and I liked wondering if the new guy in town wasn't responsible. I also liked theway the two boys did not resolve their differences overnight, and thatthere was an underlying reason for the bully's actions and attitude. The recipes in the back of the book are quite a bonus. Do be warned thatthis is a fairly short book, but it is entertaining. I would read moreby this author.

A Dash of Charm, too By Susan Livingston I must admit that I was interested in reading this because of thecharacter's last name but it pulled me in right from the first chapter. Betsy is a likeable character that many of us can identify with and the story is charming. Set in a small Texas town I can just picture some of the characters that the author brings to life as people in my owncommunity. I enjoy mysteries and was happy to find out that I did notfigure out the whodunit prior to the exposure. This is a nice book foran afternoon read and I look forward to the next one in the series.

From the Author

I have been asked what inspired me to write about a paranormal investigation.  When my daughter was in middle school, we would set aside everyWednesday night and watch all of those ghost hunting shows on cable. We loved it when they used the gadgets and walked around in the dark.Funny, but most of the time the ghost hunters really didn't find toomuch. From that I thought about what it would be like to actually beon a ghost hunting paranormal investigation and all of the murderousthings that could happen.  As far as the bats in the book, my family took a vacation to San Antonio one year and we strolled down the River Walk which is a series of walkways along the San Antonio River. It really is beautiful, but I was shocked to look up and see hundreds of bats.  I wondered how frightening it would be to be stuck in a tunnel with them?  From that experience the "dead tunnel" in the book was born.  Even with all that going on, A Dash of Murder has humor, romance, recipes and of course, a dash of mystery.

Teresa Trent writes the Piney Woods and the Pecan Bayou Mystery Series from Houston, Texas where she loves the people and even the weather. Teresa includes Danny, a character with Down Syndrome in her Pecan Bayou family and in real life is the mother of an adult son with Down Syndrome/PDD. Creating the character of Danny and all of the other inhabitants of Pecan Bayou has been a joy for her. Even though she lives in the big city, her writing is influenced by all of the interesting people she finds in small towns and the sense of family that is woven through them all.
