Gives wolves a bad name
Verified purchase
First of all, wolf attacks are exceedingly rare. Showing wolves attacking every human in sight like this gives them a bad reputation. This is the kind of thing that leads people to fear and want to kill wildlife on sight. Human beings are not on the wolf menu!

I thought this might have been an interesting film, but it turned out to be the same old story. In fact, the fight sequence along the cliffs looks exactly like the one in The Hunted, but with different actors. The storyline was very basic and the bad guys were really outlandish. Not very believable bad guys. The female lead was great in her role, but she was not given many good lines.

The bad guys were really dumb and their reasons for being with Richard Dreyfuss' character, called just "Father" in the film, were never fully explained. There were too many plot holes to count. So many things never explained.

If you like action movies with lots of shooting and chases in snow and people falling off cliffs, then this one's for you. I thought the scenery in the trailer was good and expected it was going to be a better suspense film, but I was disappointed. It was all shooting and wolves killing people and very little plot. I wasted $6.99 on this rental. The only redeeming thing is that the wolves are cool to see, even though they were shown with fake growling soundtracks played over them to make them appear aggressive. The body language of those wolves was not aggressive at all, and you can see their eyes looking toward their trainers in several scenes.

abuses the truth about wolves

Video of wolves is poorly edited into the story, making wolves look like man-killers. A 2002 report prepared for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game found no human deaths in North America attributed to wild, healthy wolves since at least 1900. Since then, a jogger was reportedly killed in Alaska, and an "acclimated" wolf killed someone who was mishandling the situation. This kind of misinformation is deadly to wolves. The story is terrible, and the wolves just seem gratuitously grafted into the story for no good reason. This movie is worse than terrible in every respect: editing, cinematography, scripting, acting, etc. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. INSTEAD, SEND MONEY TO THE WILDERNESS SOCIETY OR THE CENTER FOR BIOLOGIC DIVERSITY.

Preposterous Story That fails on All Accounts!

first of all: nobody can just up and die in this movie: they get shot, they get stabbed, they get blown up, they get into icy water out in the frozen woods....bit by wolves....you name it , and it takes them forever to die, if at all.....And not just the lead, Carano, but the "bad guys" also, who are a bunch of inbred miscreants slavishly listening to an ancient Richard Dreyfuss, who has some sort of sway over them, and for good luck, they throw in one black woman (??) how did she get mixed up with this motley crew?? No explanation about that.

Meanwhile, there is some flimsy revenge thing going on here, where Carano's boy is kidnapped by these idiots, demanding a ransom, of which they never intend to release the boy, but rather they plan to keep the money, kill Carano, and then somehow, sell the boy into slavery (???), I know, how is this even possible by a bunch of backwoods cretins who can barely speak proper English, and have all sorts of nasty looking icky stuff on their teeth whenever they grin!

And if you've read the reviews by others, it is a totally unrealistic portrayal of wolves, where one by one, they are hunting down all of these humans, except of course, for Carano, of whom they mysteriously have some sort of respect for. If they made even one kill of a human that night, they would have enough food to get them by for days, there is no reason to believe that they would just keep on hunting the rest down, relentlessly....oh, but these are somehow smart wolves that know the difference between Carano and the evil bad nasty men! LOL...

I tell you, this is an absolute train wreck of a movie.....normally, I would only give it one star but I threw in an extra one for combination of production values and Gina's cute face.

inspiration to overcome

The wolves left the main character alone. This is like the stare down between people deciding whether or not to fight. i and my only somewhat ambulatory elderly male friend were approached on the beach one night by a gang of four. They circled about 16 inches behind my friend in a predatory way. i (female) took off my white sneaker to use as a weapon and stared the leader down. He told the others to leave us alone and they all left. One of the reviews was critical of wolf behavior being misrepresented. I have also stared down a dog larger than a wolf. Canines definitely have that moment of deciding who is alpha. Canines and people. OK, so a wolf expert sees inconsistencies with natural wolf behavior. But what happens to natural wolf behavior when a new alpha is thrown into the mix? And, maybe these men had tormented this same wolf pack for years and the pack had had enough. But I'm willing to accept errors....It's a movie....It's here to enjoy. I thought the scenes of overcoming deadly events were inspiring.

I honestly couldn't get past the first ten minutes.

Full disclosure, I haven't watched the whole movie. I didn't need to, the first 10 was bad enough. Every scene in the 10 minutes I watched was the most predictable and stupidest possible outcome. Story writers seemed to have the characters make every dumb decision possible for the sole purpose of having a storyline. I read through the reviews after the 10 mins I watched and found many saying the same about the rest of the movie. So I will just point out what I noticed in the first 10 mins - it should give you a good idea of the film without having to waste 10mins of your time.

She's supposed to be ex-military - I work in the Air Force, and even in the air-based branch I don't know a single person who would take a friggin' double-barreled shotgun and a revolver to a gunfight. What is this, 1845? Don't even get me STARTED on how many rounds she fires out of that shotgun in the first gunfight scene without reloading (because that only seems to happen when it's convenient).

She proceeds to get into a car chase, giant Yukon vs Dodge Durango. Driving HMMWVs is a lot harder than driving a friggin' GMC Yukon - but, conveniently, she rolls the truck while trying to reload the shotgun. I would hate to see this chick try to text and drive.

Once she crashes the truck, she hobbles out and seems on the verge of death. No airbags deployed, that would be too convenient. She gets out her revolver (couldn't use it before cuz it wasn't convenient to use that instead of reloading the damned shotgun) and tries to one-arm Johnny Law this thing to shoot a fleeing assailant in the back at like 10 meters range. Misses 2-3 times and then finally decides she should do what the military would've taught her and, joy, USES BOTH HANDS. Only then (after the fleeing assailant is nearly out of the effective range of the weapon) does she land a shot, at which point the SUV she flipped conveniently explodes about 500m behind her, which is somehow enough to land her on her back and keep her from getting up.

I get it, suspension of disbelief, but you can only suspend so much before you're just ignoring everything you know about life in order for a movie to be convenient. I have seen TV shows put together better than this, so frankly, there is no excuse for a movie to be this bad.

well stupid me I like Gina so I watched like 30 seconds of the trailer then purchased the movie, never again. If you are still reading Gina does not show any skin, Richard Dreyfus looks like he is 90 years old, wolves do not attack a camp during the day that has smoke around it, the one guy gets shot early and puts a turnock it on his leg and three days later he is still going strong...would be dead. Turned it off half way thru and need to get my CC to give my money back... horrible.

I love watching movies, even the bad ones. Could be the worst plot ever. This spent the first 5 minutes with starting credits - no plot line building, not even good camera work or interesting footage. The next 10 minutes about 2 lines of dialog then decent action; it's the next 5 minutes of montage "backstory" that was completely meaningless and could be cut to 15 seconds that lead me to turn this off at 20 minutes!! Nothing <- and that's what you should give them. Yeah, yeah, hypocritical to give them 1 star, but couldn't actually set it to 0. Save your time, save your money or gamble - skip past the first 20 minutes and see if it gets any better.

Gina Carano doing what she does best--fully armed & dangerous
Verified purchase
The teachings of man say to never get between a mother and her 'cub.' Could be this is the movie that the teaching sprouted from. . . .

The movie depicts Carano as an estranged mother--a veteran of a foreign war returned home. Someone has taken her son, a boy she doesn't really know. But, she had her mind on setting that aright. But that vile kidnapper has gotten between her and her reconciliation with her son.

Not what I would call a smart move. Carano is credible as a vengeful parent on the 'warpath.' Richard Dreyfuss is convincing as a despicable low-life, repeat offender as a child abductoe/white slaver. Oh, and the wolves are a constant irritation throughout the film, hunting and terrorizing is a pack. The leader of the pack shares a kinship of sorts with Carano's character to add a touch of mysticism to the atmosphere.

Worth watching. I can't say I enjoyed for all the violence. But I'm a fan of Gina Carano and I stuck it out for the whole film to see her deliver. Four out of Five Stars is my rating. When you're in a mean mood, give this film a look.
