In this gripping mystery, an FBI Agent’s search for her sister clashes with a military investigator's high-stakes case, leading them both deep into a global conspiracy—from which neither of them will escape unscathed.
For many long years, Atlee Pine was tormented by uncertainty after her twin sister, Mercy, was abducted at the age of six and never seen again. Now, just as Atlee is pressured to end her investigation into Mercy's disappearance, she finally gets her most promising breakthrough yet: the identity of her sister's kidnapper, Ito Vincenzo. With time running out, Atlee and her assistant Carol Blum race to Vincenzo's last known location in Trenton, New Jersey—and unknowingly stumble straight into John Puller's case, blowing his arrest during a drug ring investigation involving a military installation.
Stunningly, Pine and Puller's joint investigation uncovers a connection between Vincenzo's family and a breathtaking scheme that strikes at the very heart of global democracy. Peeling back the layers of deceit, lies and cover-ups, Atlee finally discovers the truth about what happened to Mercy. And that truth will shock Pine to her very core.

About the author

David Baldacci has been writing since childhood, when his mother gave him a lined notebook in which to write down his stories. (Much later, when David thanked her for being the spark that ignited his writing career, she revealed that she'd given him the notebook to keep him quiet, "because every mom needs a break now and then.")
David published his first novel, ABSOLUTE POWER, in 1996. A feature film followed, with Clint Eastwood as its director and star. In total, David has published 44 novels for adults; all have been national and international bestsellers and several have been adapted for film and television. His novels have been translated into over 45 languages and sold in more than 80 countries, with 150 million copies sold worldwide. David has also published seven novels for younger readers.
David is also the cofounder, along with his wife, of the Wish You Well Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting literacy efforts across the United States.

But, to begin with, David Baldacci has awarded us with another (yes, yet another) phenomenal read.
I should say this first. I do not re tell story lines in my reviews. So, any would-be reader/reviewer reading this for a “cliff notes” purpose will be disappointed. I write this without having read any other reviewer’s take on this book.
I typically break down a book in an analytic way, looking at Plot, Character Development, Rising/Falling Action, Anti Climax, and then, Resolution.
The Plot of this book was enormously engrossing. I could not put the book down---with one caveat.
For me, the read started off slow, which from my experience with this writer, was, I thought, unusual. But, then the read took off like a rocket right on through the Resolution.
A word about Resolution.
I generally find the Resolution in a book to be sappy, i.e., either not that interesting, or even informative to the story line overall. But, that’s me.
Major exception was this read. It was outstanding. Unlike any other that I’ve read, either by this author or of others I’ve read and reviewed, the Resolution in this book absolutely captured the essence of the read for me.
But, I should digress.
Character Development, for me, means I want the good guys to be “good” and the bad guys to be “better” (as in the Mae West line, “When I’m good, I’m very good, and when I’m bad, I’m “better”).
The terrifically “good guy” in this book is FBI agent Atlee Pine.
I have to say, that in her prior books, she didn’t exactly set my heart on fire. She absolutely did, though, in this read. She was doggedly determined to get to the bottom of things, whatever those “things” might be throughout the story line.
Having said that, I liked John Puller’s role, but frankly, Atlee over shadowed him in the main, except for the one scene in which he came through in flying colors.
I can’t say too much for any other antagonist in the read including Jack Lineberry, but, what I will say about him, is, he got what he deserved (see Resolution).
As I say above, there is a lot to say about this book that I don’t mention here. Suffice it to say, the story is particularly poignant in those other areas. But to expound on them here would be too much to comment on in this review.
In conclusion, David Baldacci is one of those writers that never disappoints. He always provides an exceptional read. I pre order his books and read them as soon as I can. I will continue to do so.
Some of the things that made it not as enjoyable as the previous two in the series: There were too many close calls and in the knick of time saves. The criminals were super human in their knowledge and a step ahead of both Puller and Atlee.
However, it was still mostly entertaining except it was also depressing because there were so many disgusting villains. And too many people dropped the ball on her sister for too long, including Atlee.
The end was weird and there were a lot of storylines so one kept on going back and forth between different characters in bad situations.
In Daylight, Atlee and her assistant Carol Blum are chasing down a recent lead that might help Atlee find her sister. The revelations in the book about what Atlee didn’t know about her parents is surprising and creates tension that kept me reading for hours. The story has a character from another series in the Baldacci world of fiction named John Puller. John Puller is a top-notch Army CID agent, and Atlee inadvertently steps into his current investigation. So, they set out together to solve their respective cases because they seem very entangled and so huge that each person couldn’t solve their case alone. What they didn’t expect is the amount of danger and risk rises exponentially from sources that are supposed to be helping them.
Throughout the book, readers can expect surprises in the plot and maybe characters from other Baldacci books. In Daylight, David Baldacci takes his time weaving a masterpiece of a story that pulls readers in with an ending that will take your breath away! Join the adventure and continuing tale of FBI Agent Atlee Pine as she scours the country looking for her sister Mercy. You won’t regret it!
Top reviews from other countries

With her assistant and loyal friend, Carol Blum, at her side she is shocked to find her case is linked to that of military investigator John Puller through the kidnapper she has only just begun to hunt. Together they realise the connection could strike at the heart of far more than either of them could begin to understand alone and as more information comes to light Atlee finally reaches a shocking realisation of what happened to Mercy all those years ago.
Once again Mr Baldacci has provided a story to keep you reading long into the night. Atlee is a great character and the addition of John Puller is a very clever move as it gives a whole different sense of what has happened and why. Thankfully, although many things have been sorted there is still more to come where Atlee is concerned and I will absolutely be waiting in line for that.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. Anyone who is a fan of this series of books won't be disappointed.

The story is fine as far as it goes pushing the hunt for Mercy along, and the slightly weaker subplot of Political blackmail could have been better used, my main complaint though is the ending!
I had the impression from previous books that there would be a conclusion to the Mercy story soon and perhaps a new opening for Atlee where she fades with her sister into the sunset, but the rushed ending here felt like the author had a 'Ka-ching' moment and has spun the story out for at least another episode, altogether unsatisfying as this character's story arc was, I felt, coming to a natural end. It will be interesting to see how (if) he brings John Puller back after this.
