Wow, what a wonderful book! Ms. Novak continues to blow me away with her thrilling stories of romantic suspense. I was completely hooked from the very beginning and read this story in every spare second I could find. It contains some heavy subject matter though and was definitely gut-wrenching at times. Thankfully there were way more tender and heartwarming moments that made up for all the darkness. I loved Grace and even her siblings, although their mother is another matter. Then there was Kennedy who was great too, and his two little boys whom I absolutely adored. I even ended up liking his mom and I honestly didn't think I would.
My only issue would be with the romance which took a while to get off the ground and when it did it felt too sudden and all-encompassing. I'm just not sure how you go from indifference to full on infatuated after not seeing someone for thirteen years. Once I got over the suddenness of their feelings though I did think their romance was really beautiful. There was one individual who caused a lot of trouble for Grace and Kennedy and didn't get his just rewards in my opinion, but I'm hoping maybe he will in the next book. Kennedy handed out a little satisfaction on that end though, which was rewarding in its on way.
Overall it was just a fast-paced read that was never boring and had a delightful mix of romance, mystery, and suspense. There were plenty of twists too, as well as some things that were pretty easy to figure out. The epilogue was absolutely stunning though and while technically I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger, there are still some issues left unsolved that are obviously going to be carried over into the next book. In the end the story was not perfect and I noticed one mistake that got by the editor with the timeline of events, but all in all it was still a very solid and satisfying tale. I've become a big fan of Ms. Novak's and can't wait to read Clay's book soon =)

There's a body buried behind a Mississippi farmhouse Grace Montgomery knows who it is, and she knows why it happened. She was only thirteen the night it all went wrong. And now, like then, she has no choice but to keep her mouth shut. Grace left the town of Stillwater thirteen years ago, trying to forget, trying to make good. As an assistant D.A. in Jackson, she's finally achieved the success that was supposed to change her life. But it hasn't -- so she's come back to confront her own history. Which means returning to the farmhouse now owned by her brother and facing the people of Stillwater, a number of whom suspect the truth. Widower Kennedy Archer is one of those people. He's running for mayor and needs to stay as far away from Grace as possible. And yet...she's an enigma he can't resist. Even though her enemies are close to finding out what really happened -- and that could ruin them both.

Another wonderful read by Brenda Novak. I haven't found a book that I did not like yet. I'm relatively new to her work and I cannot wait to read more of it. She can definitely write a good romantic suspenseful novel. My favorite :)
I LOVED this story line. Normally, I am reading about a story where the killer is trying to kill someone or the story starts out with a murder. Technically, this novel started out with a murder but not in the way you would imagine. I loved how this story was written and how the story was told. You kept getting hints on what happened that fateful night that Reverend Barker disappeared but were still in the dark most of the book. I had it narrowed down to a group of people but still hadn't figured who exactly had been a part of what.
I loved Grace. She was confident yet still unsure of herself. I think most people can relate to that. And I loved the relationship between Grace and Kennedy. Of course, I fell in love with Kennedy. I even loved his name. So strong and male.
I would definitely recommend this book if you were a fan of romantic suspense!

Stillwater, Mississippi is the town that Grace Montgomery left 13 years before. Nothing good kept Grace in Stillwater, but she graduated from law school, accepted an Assistant District Attorney’s position in the town of Jackson and achieved the success she was meant to have. So with trepidation Grace returns to Stillwater and her family, brother Clay, Mom Irene, and step sister Maddy. Grace was the victim of sexual abuse from her step father, Pastor Barker. Something dreadful happened when Grace was 13 and as the pages turn the story unfolds you can’t help but feel anger towards the town and the way her family was treated. When a small boy Teddy friends Grace who would have expected he was the son of widower Kennedy Archer. Kennedy had never mistreated Grace in high school, but he didn’t go out of his way to stop the terrible things from happening to Grace either. Now is the time for Grace to confront the past and learn to live again.

This book is hard to put down. It has it all from a single dad with two boys, an abused girl who was never excepted in high school but becomes a successful DA, the mysterious disappearance of a preacher and a villain thrown in to keep your interest. This story is full of surprises and twist and turns. I highly recommend “Dead Silence” if you are looking for a true reading adventure.

Dead Silence...apt title, and it sucks you in to read the trilogy---over a weekend!
Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2019
You wind up keeping Grace, and her brother, sucked into your heart. You get a notion of what the secret is, but you don't know the circumstances. You want her to open up, spill the beans, but then again you don't because you know the truth is going to be horrible. SO, with that said:
...from my post on Brenda Novak's FB page:
Just finished the the Stillwater Trilogy. Holy.... Cow. !!! This past weeknd? Chores ??? I was lucky to tear myself away to do grocery shopping (gotta keep the strength, y'know?). Had planned to : Catch up on movies (I have Prime and Netflix)? Didn't even turn on the TV. Wash sheets, drapes in the bedroom? Nope, next weekend.
My eyes hurt, but SOO worth it!
Thank you, Brenda, for keeping me enthralled. D*MN!! That was some GOOD writin'!! :)

This was a hard book for me to read. I almost gave up on it because of the set up. Assistant DA Grace Montgomery had secrets and went back home to deal with them, opening up a can of worms better left buried. She was involved in the murder of her step-father while a child of thirteen. Now with her return to Stillwater the community wants answers to what happened eighteen years before.
Widower Kennedy Archer is running for mayor. He doesn’t like the way the community treats Grace because of her bad reputation as a teen. While he didn’t abuse her back then he also didn’t do anything to stop it. He tries to make up for it. Grace knows what being with him will ruin his chance for election.
The story is well written, and others may have loved it, but it was too dark for me.

This is a brilliant story that had me hooked right from the start! We meet Grace Montgomery and straight away learn that her step father is dead and that her family are responsible. What follows is a real sad tale of abuse, suffering, secrets and lies as Grace is trying to find away to move forwards as an adult whilst struggling to deal with the unresolved issues from her past.
Due to her experiences as a child, she was different and she was bullied - so going back to her home town where those people have very long memories, and lots of interest in other people's business, was going to be hard.
She finds an unexpected connection with Kennedy who she remembered from school. But his friend Joe believes she had something to do with his uncle's death (Graces step father).
Joe is an awful character... I could not stand him, but even I started to feel a bit sorry for him by the end.
A really brilliant read and I'm moving straight on to the next one in the series!

Another great read by Brenda Novak. I must admit, I read books 2&3 before reading book 1; that's what I liked about this trilogy, no matter what order you read them, it doesn't spoil the storyline. Sad that its come to an end.

Love the storyline, even if it's grittier than I normally read. I read this series one book after another and wished there were more.

I loved the suspense that built throughout the book, and the twist at the very end. And, of course, there's more books in this series which is always a bonus
