Western novelist Peter Brandvold was born and raised in North Dakota. He has penned nearly 200 fast-action westerns under his own name and his penname, Frank Leslie as well as Tabor Evans and, more recently, Max O'Hara, the name under which he has written the recent Wolf Stockburn Railroad Detective series for Kensington. He is the author of the ever-popular .45-Caliber books featuring Cuno Massey as well as the Lou Prophet and Yakima Henry novels. The Ben Stillman books are a long-running series with previous volumes available as ebooks from Wolfpack Press. Brandvold published two horror westerns—Canyon of a Thousand Eyes and Dust of the Damned, also republished by Wolfpack. Gideon Hawk had found a cabin in the hills to give him the much-needed peace that he sought after exacting his revenge. He went after the man that killed his son by hanging him and causing his wife to commit suicide; by hanging herself, unfortunately, it had given him the name of the “Rogue Lawman.” He needed time for it to die down before he did anything else. He only went into town to deal a little faro for grubstake money and then returned to the cabin. This time, while he was there, the bank was robbed, and two young girls were kidnapped. Hawk knew what the outlaws would do to those young women, and he could not turn his back to it. So he saddled up and went after them, and the story begins.

What did I like? It is possible that I have found another favorite character to ride behind. Gideon Hawk is a man that hurts, and you just can’t help loving and rooting for him. But it is for sure that trouble seems to find him even when he is trying to hide from the world.

What will you like? Characters that will bind to your heart, outlaws that you want to take care of yourself, and a creative and well-crafted storyline that you will remember forever. Deadly trip to bring justice.

Hubby and I enjoy the genre' of the old west. Some stories are based on travels and others on justice, this book combines all means to revenge the rape and deaths of young women. This particular gang is made up of 20 members of the worst sort of depraved man plus one crude woman. Yes, brutal killings occur but in many minds, Hawk is not a criminal but a man who brings justice to those that deserve it. Gideon Hawk is all about bringing justice.
