Meet Sukey Reynolds: proud mother, wonderful cook...and police photographer turned amateur detective.
Years ago, Sukey was hoping to become a detective, but life took a different turn. Now she’s happy to be involved with the local police force, as long as she still gets to work the occasional murder case....
When Sukey arrives to photograph the body of Lorraine Chant, the beautiful wife of a wealthy businessman, she’s baffled. At first, it looks like a botched burglary, as the huge family safe has been left wide open and empty. But why does Lorraine’s rich husband claim nothing was taken? And what is he not telling the police?
Deciding to do a little investigating of her own, things take a darker turn for Sukey when she is set upon by a shady figure. What do they think she knows? As Sukey finds herself in the firing line, can she expose the true killer before it’s too late?
If you love murder mysteries by Agatha Christie, Faith Martin, or Joy Ellis, then this novel from the best-selling queen of cozy crime will have you hooked!

There is a plethora of English slang, many *cuppa* tea and coffee. And lots of English countryside thrown at us. We are introduced to Sukkie, a crime scene photographer who, along with her son Fergus provide domestic atmosphere. Now full disclosure, I am not a fan of *cozy mysteries*. I find them a tad too precious. Cozy just means no swear words and no wild detailed sex scenes. No pet cats or dogs but other than that, yeah some major coziness going on here. I found too much detail regarding good old Fergus, which really adds nothing to the story, and in fact, adds a bit too much drag. I surmise we are supposed to find Sukkie to be a caring loving mum, but I found it to be too much of a good thing. I found her love interest to be forced and unbelievable .
But for a cozy mystery, this might be right up your alley. One small point and maybe I missed it, but what happened with Terry and Rita? Oh well..maybe I won’t skim over the last few pages so quickly. Serves me right.
The DI is quite dumb - stubbornly chasing his tail until kicked on the butt with evidence he simply cannot turn around against his preferred suspect.
Sukey is weird. A normal person when banned from the house and told nobody is home goes away. Not her - she goes around and hangs out in the backyard till she finds a way to enter through the back door. Weird, definitely. Well - it suits the author's plot development. Still weird.
