Deceiving the Highlander: Highland Bodyguards, Book 10 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
A spy determined to protect her secrets. A Highlander hell-bent on the truth. All’s fair in their game of deception.
When an English spy working for Robert the Bruce falls inexplicably silent, Will Sinclair is sent to determine if she needs protection. But if he discovers her allegiances have turned...the Scottish cause must come first. Yet instead of answers, he finds a beautiful but mysterious woman who refuses to explain herself. Will has been betrayed before - which cost him an eye - so the last thing he’ll tolerate is a traitor. Can he uncover the truth before he loses his head - or his heart?
In the four years Eleanor de Monteney has worked as a spy in the English court, never have matters been more delicate - or dangerous. The last thing she needs is a rough-edged Highlander jeopardizing all her carefully constructed plans. Worse yet, in order to get close enough to assess her loyalties, he claims to be her fiancé. To protect her secrets, Eleanor must keep Will at arm’s length, but the smoldering desire between them threatens to ignite into an all-consuming blaze. With the fate of two nations hanging in the balance, will her deception cost them everything?

Will Sinclair, a member of the Bruce's Bodyguard Corps, consider's himself not at his best due to having lost his eye when he was betrayed. But he is sent on a mission to the English court to find one of his spies, Eleanor de Monteney, who has been out of contact. The concern is either she has been found out or worse, she could have turned on them since she is an Englishwoman. If that is the case, there is only one outcome Will will have to carry out.
Eleanor cannot believe it when a large one eyed highlander shows up claiming to be her fiance'. What? Her parents had supposedly arranged the union and she plays along. So Will gets close to her and the tension spikes to pull off their charade with his focus to find out what is really happening with her. Why has she not sent a message to the Bruce as usual?
The attraction is there, but who to trust, how to pull off this deception with the Queen so close and all of the political intrigue at every corner?
A masterfully written story that will remain one of my favorites. I am sad this is the end of this series, but fear not! There are more amazing stories to come from this author, I have no doubt!! ( Please hurry!)
I enjoy how the author intertwines fiction with history. The author gives a lot of information at the end, which was informative and reminded me of much I'd forgotten.
There is lovemaking, outside of marriage, rated maybe 3 out of 5. We have twists, suspense and bumpy road to HEA. No cheating and no cliffhanger. There is a wonderful epilogue at the end that was heartfelt and brought h/H from past books. As I stated in my subject line, this is a stand alone and I would recommend it. (ljb)
I was glad to read about the lack of leadership the King had , with favorites taking center stage so much of the time, I was dismayed to learn the Sudan's children were taken away from her as a power move and to control her. The finances and blossoming love stories were touching with the ups and downs of relationships.
I recommend reading this book whether or not you have read any off the others, you will be glad you did.
I believe I have read all of this author's books, enjoying every I one of them.
I was glad to see Will Sinclair find his happy ever after and to find peace with his injury/disability (and the man that caused it).
I love how Ms. Prince weaves her characters in and throughout actual historical events.
