Der Regenbogenfish is a great book for early-learning kids. Even though my son did not understand all of the German words, the pictures and storyline (along with a little bit of translation into English), kept his attention.
Another classic for any children's book collection. This German-language book is fantastic for educational use (I'm a MS & HS German teacher) as well as to teach young ones the importance of sharing. The pictures are beautiful as well.
In a nutshell: This is the odd story of a beautiful fish that gives away his scales to other fish to buy their friendship. Sure, sharing is important, and kids have to learn to share. But in my eyes this book is teaching a questionable interpretation of friendship. My daughter likes the book anyways, because indeed the drawings are beautiful.
My husband is teaching my two kids German as a second language and this book with the glittering pictures and excellent story is perfect. The kids get very excited when he brings it out. It's amazing how quickly kids can pick up a second language when the learning materials are fun. To anyone who wants to teach their kids German: skip the stuff made to teach a language and buy Marcus Pfister's books translated in German. Your kids won't be able to get enough of them!
This book is a must have for all children libraries! even as a grown up you learn the very important message from Rainbowfish and his friends. the pcitures are beautiful, full of color without being confusing to a child's eyes. The text is easy to read and understand.
