Derelict Duty
Nic Haydock, “Nac” to his friends, because, as they said, saying he had a knack for fixing and improving mechanical devices was the understatement of all time. Reuniting with his lifelong friends — Mal, a computer genius, and Jazz, a natural-born pilot, he started a mining and shipping business. However, while repairing their rock-tug, they stumbled upon a way to control artificial gravity, creating a gravitational force field. The massive and powerful Corporation found out about the new tech and realized it will change the balance of power, something its managers can’t allow to happen. Everyone wants this new tech and are willing to do anything to get it. When his friends are almost killed, Nic begins to take it personally and starts using their tactics against them. It soon becomes a no-holds-barred shooting war that spans the Solar System.

My first career was as a Warrant Officer in the US Army, I am now retired with 22 years of service under my belt. Moving into the next phase of my life, I am a full-time author and RV'er. After seeing everyone else's Country during my first career, we decided to see our own. My wife and I enjoy traveling to see the wonders of America.

I love reading and watching Sci-Fi books, television shows, and movies. To think, "what if" and "why not." I am a pantser writer, I'll get an idea, or see a photo and think, "that would make a great story!". Writing as a pantser, to me, is like reading a new story. I have no idea where the story is going to end up. Writing the way gets me excited to pick up a pen; I look forward to writing each time, and can't wait to write many more.

I have to say, if it weren’t for the fact that this author writes a really interesting story, I would have quit reading after the first chapter.
But he really does tell a good story, makes you want to keep reading to see what happens next.
However...The author apparently has no beta readers or copy readers. The grammar sucks, going from present tense to past tense in the same sentence. Leaving out connective words and using the wrong words in sentences because they sound sort of like the correct word.
Having said all that, I ultimately bought the first two books and am enjoying them despite their flaws.

If you dream of and one day hope to see us Grounders in space then this series is awesome. I've read it twice now.... And will again when I can't find another great juicy sci-fi to sink my teeth into... More like my eyes and imagination into. This series is top shelf!!!!! And the 5 star rating is no joke..... It's along the lines of my faves ..... Jon Hunter and his bad ass crew, with a Matrix Neo and crew flare, throw some more bad ass side kicks along the lines of Bethany Annes friends to join the party all props go to the author MA. So I hope you enjoy this series as much as I do. James Haddock I so love how you kick ass and take names while protecting your characters/family.

If you liked "Hero at Large" by Timothy Ellis you will love this book. I just discovered the author and this "Duty trilogy" concludes my reading of all his books. Now someone will mention it so I as well address it first, all his books need some editing. They are written well enough but it seems like the originally manuscript was typed and them scanned in by OCR and then spell checked and published without editing. I did my best to edit it with my Kindle, but I'm not sure Amazon even looks at our input. Anyway, great story and I eagerly await the third book in the trilogy. This book is available through Amazon Unlimited, but I liked James Haddocks books so much, I bought them all.

I love this series! I read them (Books 1-2) on Kindle Unlimited and went immediately to purchase after reading.

This series is one you want to read if you like books that make you feel better after you read it.
I was hooked after the first few pages.
To be honest I was very surprised. I was expecting the usual young man has tragedy. The love of his life cheats on him or the book goes into a harem story. Lots of overdone violence, profanity and sex.
This series is nothing like that at all.
Great people with character and honor against huge odds.
I highly recommend this series

Some syntax errors and editing issues. These aside it was an excellent read. In the style of Nathan Powell there is no overt obscene language or in your face sexual activity. It's about the characters and the story. In the collection of assets, businesses and associates the story moves a bit quicker than most however still interesting and believable. It will be good to read the next book to see what happens next. Not too many surprises I suspect but still a good read.
