Falling in love with romance novels the summer before sixth grade, D’Ann Lindun never thought about writing one until many years later when she took a how-to class at her local college. With the Jumping Cholla Resort anything but jumping, Mike Malone thinks things can't get any worse. Then an old prospector dies in one of the cabins. When Mike cleans out the cabin, he finds the half of a mysterious map and a photograph of a woman and baby.

Mallory James was abandoned by her father decades before, leaving pain in her heart and soul worse than the Cholla's needle-sharp, vicious spines. She travels to the resort after Mike calls her, breaking the news of her father's lonely death.

In addition to deciphering the mysterious map, Mike faces a battle to save his business. In spite of her grief, Mallory finds herself drawn into Mike's struggle to save the resort. As they work together from their diametrically opposed perspectives, the two find themselves fighting another battle…against their rising feelings for one another.

Too Many Inaccuracies!

The story line may be a good one, I don't know as I won't finish this, but there are so many inaccuracies that I can't read with any sort of belief. Let me give you examples. In Chapter Seven Mallory and Mike go to a hamburger restaurant in a town the size of six. Mike is a resort owner and has been there before with other guests, yet has to introduce himself to the owner/cook. In reality, Mike would be an important man, and in a small town it's well known who can help you if they choose--the owner would have welcomed him, not had to introduce himself. The cafe owner tells Mallory that he is the postmaster, yet later, looking around the town (with six inhabitants???) they stop in front of the post office. (???? No, there would be no post office, just a sign designating the hamburger place as offering postal service; there would never be a separate building in a town with 6 inhabitants!! On the way back to the ranch, they come across a car that's been caught in a flash flood. Mike wades in up to his waist to see if anyone needs rescuing. (Sorry, but anything over 2 feet of rushing water is impossible to stand in.) On the way back to the shore, Mike slips and Mallory wraps the rope around her waist, another action that is not only dangerous, but would be impossible to perform while the man on the other end is being pulled downstream. Please! If the writer is ignorant of facts about small towns and flash floods, etc., her editor needs to contribute knowledge or urge research, interviewing firemen or someone with actual experience. When parts of the story are so unbelievable, I can't enjoy the book.

Once again D'ann has knocked it out of the park with a well crafted page turner that keeps you guessing until the very end.

What is Mallory to do when Mike calls her to let her know her treasure hunter father has died. Take up his hunt of course. And who doesn't love a treasure hunt.

There are so many twists and turns that I really had no idea who done it until it was revealed although I had about a gazillion guesses. This book definitely proves that money will make even the best of people do the strangest things.

The chemistry between Mike and Mallory was instantaneous and burns hot through the book. They have a few false starts though and a few people trying to keep them apart. They weather the storm though.

Overall I give this 4.5 out of 5 A wonderful read, I highly recommend it.
