As your child grows the Safe Plus steel anti-rebound increases stability and reduces rebound rotation by up to 50%, so you can keep them safely rear-facing for longer, up to 50 lbs. approx. 4 years old. Engineered following the latest European research and technology in crash energy management, the radian 3QXT features 8 layers of side impact protection, that includes a removable Safe Plus side impact management pod, constructed to channel energy around the back of the car seat and away from the child in the event of a side impact. As they transition to forward facing, the Safe Plus easy adjust 12 position headrest is contoured to improve child head containment and provides a 22% increase in occupancy range from the radian R series. All of these great features have been combined with Safe+ engineering, with the 3QXT subjected to a combination of the most rigorous crash tests, front, rear, and side impacts, and rollover test to ensure the safest seat possible. Parents can also expect the travel friendly traits Diono is famous for, including convenient fold and FAA approval for use on an aircraft. I drive a 2016 Honda Civic and my two year old son has been in a Diono Randian RXT installed in the middle seat since birth. I chose Diono because I needed a slim seat to maximize back seat usage and I wanted something that would last from newborn to booster. I was very excited about the new QXT seat for my newborn because it addressed some of the issues I had with the RXT.
Side impact protection- this seat offers greater side impact protection in both the shell of the seat and the attached pod than its predecessors did. I feel completely comfortable having my newborn in the rear passenger seat.
Anti-rebound bar- the older Dionos have a strap you attach to the front seat tracks which decreases rotation in a crash, but it can be difficult to set up and leaves excess strap laying everywhere. The anti-rebound bar is supposed to be the replacement, however, due to the design of the seats in my car, the bar does not completely brace against the seat. It will still reduce some rotation in a crash, but not as well.
Newborn usage- my first son was two weeks late and a decent size, so the RXT worked well from birth but would not be ideal for a small baby. However, the QXT has some awesome newborn features and keeps the new baby at a perfect angle and keeps his head from flopping around.
Rear facing foot attachment- the foot attachment at the bottom slips into the crack of your back seat to achieve the desired angle, but I’ve learned that some vehicles do not have a suitable crack for this to be positioned in. It is pretty much impossible for me to get a safe rear facing install in my mother’s Subaru, so I have a Chicco nextfit as an easy to install spare seat for her car. This issue hasn’t been rectified in the new QXT.
Overall, I am quite pleased with the seat so far. My older RXT has held up well and my toddler is always comfortable so I expect nothing less from this new series. I love that I can have both boys in the back of my little car along with full usage of my rear driver’s side seat. This seat has also passed extensive safety tests beyond the required testing and will hold up exceptionally well in the event of a roll over crash. Be sure to research compatibility with your vehicle and give yourself plenty of time to achieve a safe install after reading the manual and looking up videos online.
The bad: this is on amazon and not the product. I ordered the open box warehouse deal, like new I believe, since 95% of the time we have great luck with them. Well this was an item that was in that 5%. What we received was a car seat with stained fabric, a scratched back (like they dragged it on concrete), the seat was full of crumbs and other food, where the side impact was there was a small tear in the fabric. This was very much so a used product that served its purpose and was refunded and not properly inspected by the warehouse. So while this car seat was still technically usable, it did not warrant just a $30 discount. I would have had to remove all the coverings and wash them and sow the slight tear before it became worse.
Save yourself the hassle of having to return and wait for a refund and just buy new on this product.

EDIT Oct 2020:. Side plates will easily break away, yet remain attached, if you lean on them. The hinge and pin system is open and weak. These plates may or may not be critical in a crash, they look more useful for adjustable comfort then for pritectuon. However, the low quality enginneering indicates this product should perhaps be recalled globally, but so far DIONE is ignoring the supplied photo evidence.
The bum part of the seat material started piling after just 1 week also.
This seat is going to be discontinued very soon I am sure.
I’m giving this 3/5 because it is the safest construction but the design needs more practical consideration. Is it comfortable? YES. Is it safe? YES. Does it install easily? Somewhat- the radian adjustment pad is useful for rear-facing. “Easy remove cover” is written visibly on the front— this is a twisted joke. The worst car seat cover removal process I’ve ever experienced and I’ve owned 6 different car seats. You have to uninstall the seat, remove all straps, and that’s the easy part. Removing the cover takes force... I hate the elastic catches that hook into the plastic groves laterally on the seat. My baby monitor battery died in the time it takes to remove for a routine cleaning. Not practical. The cup holder is easily removed by a toddler. The car seat is so heavy that it is cumbersome to move when rearranging seats or changing the cover. I’d never take it travelling by plane.
My child was sick all over it so I decided to remove and wash the cover. OMG the cover is a complete pain to remove and an even bigger one to replace. Of the many car seats I have used this was by far the worst cover to take on and off. Seriously thought about selling it and not spending the next 8+ years with it.
