This is the second time that we've purchased this item to transport our Diono carseat (which we love) during commercial air travel. The first time, the fabric lasted exactly 1 round-trip, and the second time, it lasted just 1 trip. I will be buying another brand next time and I encourage all to do the same until Diono improves the materials and construction of their bags to match their high quality car seats.

Purchased 2 of these. Like others, I had a poor experience with this bag when using it for air travel. At first, the bags seems to be made of very durable material. However, we checked-in our bag while traveling this past week and the bag had 3 holes when we landed at JKF, then had a full on rip on the return flight which punctured the car seat’s material on the way back (see pictures).

This would only be useful for air travel if you plan on taking the car seat all the into the aircraft (Rainier’s are FAA approved).

Diono won’t honor their warranty on this, no where in the product description does it say this isn’t meant for checked luggage.

This is amazing! I cheaped out on our first trip with our Diono and regretted it big time. The airline or TSA broke our seat in one of those cheap red nylon bags. One of the reasons I hadn’t purchased this bag was because of the reviews. Well for our next trip I decided I had to try this, not only for my son’s safety on our trip, but also because I just can’t deal with having to get yet another car seat.

Most of the negative reviews are in regards to the back straps. Our bag had a single strap connector in the middle (pictured) and side connectors. Obviously the side connectors are pretty wide and I would only use them if I was attaching a single strap on one side (messenger bag style) to put it over one shoulder. The Rainier fit inside the bag PERFECTLY and because my son is still rear facing I was able to also fit the detachable rear facing base and the infant body support pillow in the bag. Due to the size I checked the car seat again, with much trepidation, however the car seat arrived in perfect condition at our destination AND at home. The bag held up very well to wear and tear with just a few minor scratches. This is expected as we all know how rough airlines are on checked baggage. I also don’t think it’s reasonable to mark down any stars based on weight as some other reviewers did. We all knew we were buying a heavy car seat when we bought it! Diono uses steel frames in their highly rated seats. I don’t care how heavy something is if it’s for my son’s safety. The bag itself is very light, no more than a couple of pounds.

Overall, yet another quality product from Diono. I haven’t been disappointed with one thing I’ve purchased from them and their customer service is fantastic. As a native Washingtonian, thank you Diono!!

New crappy design - same high price - so disappointed!

We bought one of these a few years ago for air travel and, while the straps are not well designed, we were pretty happy overall with the product. We’ve flown with it a few times and it has held up well. Now we have a second child and so we ordered another bag. I was very disappointed to see that the company has altered the quality of the materials to make this bag. Now I see why recent reviewers have complained. And the nerve of the company to expect the same amount of money for a poorly made product. I have been happy with my dionos and have recommended them to friends, but if the company insists on expanding profits over quality products for consumers then I cannot recommend them. It suggests that it’s only a matter of time before they start cutting corners in other areas that would inevitably put the safety of children at risk. Trustworthiness and reliability are the most important factors in a company that makes child safety devices. This turn, I’m afraid, shows that diono may no longer possess these qualities.

We needed to take our Diono car seat on a trip, and reasonably thought this was a good product to buy. True, it may be the best product to carry this monstrously heavy car seat, but it is such a bane to carry. The straps are attached to the bag at such awkward places, and even for my Army Ranger husband it was terrible. For the cost, and because it's Diono, I expected something that wouldn't cut into your shoulders as it simultaneously falls off. Why can't it be more like a hiking pack with sturdy straps and a hip strap? Also, after one trip, a latch is somehow broken. Going to try and get it replaced, though I desperately hope to never have to use it again. Buying a cheap new car seat is probably worth it instead of this product.

Why did I wait so long?

We travel frequently and I have always just used the giant plastic bags that they have at the baggage counter. We just got back from the first trip with this travel bag, it made everything so much easier! First, the large zipper and opening makes it easy to get the seat in the bag, in a hurry. I waited until we were parked at the long term lot before putting it into the bag and had it done in only a minute or so, to load onto the shuttle. The removable straps were amazing since I had 2 kids, 2 suite cases and the car seat to maneuver between the shuttle and check in lines. I just used it like a back pack so I had two free hands instead of trying to drag the seat with everything else. Flying to and from Alaska, they can be pretty hard on luggage, we’ve had multiple bags only make it one trip. But this travel bag still looks new (bonus since it was the holidays and our flights were overbooked and crazy full both ways) . . . I am not so sure why we went so long before purchasing but I will use this for all future trips until my toddler outgrows his Diono!

This bag is pretty much exactly what you expect. It's tough, durable, and gives you piece of mind when travelling with your car seat. My only complaint is that the handles on the sides- over top the zippers- don't appear to open in any way, so you have to unzip the bag under the handles, and fight with them to allow you to get the car seat in. The zippers were also tough, making it difficult to zip and unzip as needed.
Otherwise the bag worked fine and we had no damage to our car seat.

Good enough as a covering and means to make transporting a car seat easier

We bought this strictly for the purpose of traveling with the carseat.
The material is a bit thin, but the padded straps/backpack configuration made it much easier to lug the car seat around an airport. After 6 flights, I've noticed that the material does have some small "holes" (not so bad as to have torn the bag, but you can definitely see punctures) and scuff marks, but it hasn't actually broken or deteriorated to the point that you can't use it.
There isn't any padding in the bag, so it won't protect from bumps of drops, but it protects against scratches, and the padded straps make carrying the seat much easier.
The bag is large enough that I could fit a R120, with the rear-facing base, an angle adjuster, and a safety mat (for protecting the surface of the car's rear seats).

Sad, sad, sad design and execution from Diono. Was expecting a lot more based on their other products. This bag is thin, flimsy and wore through, holes developed only after a single use. The seat was actually damaged as the bag did not do what it was designed for. As for the design, another let down. The shoulders straps are the most uncomfortable and ill placed part of the bag. They simply do not fit on you making carrying the seat a pain. Diono, please do better and redesign and use better materials.

The worst product I bought

This was the worst product I bought. We used it only once and I don't believe we can use it again. After the first travel on the plane, we put the FRAGILE sign in it, I found that it had a lot of holes at the back. Of course, I made a complaint with the airline and they repaired in Argentina, they had to change almost all tissue in the back with one more robust. When I get back to Canada, I found again a lot of holes but this time at the frond and worst where the shoulder straps are grips becoming unstitched. Before buying it, I put the seat in a big plastic bag and it was much better...If you want only buy the shoulder straps and use a big plastic bag.

Fragile bag and poor design

Purchased this bag for our trip to San Francisco from Toronto. It was our first trip using the bag. Was just printing out our boarding passes and the bag slipped off the cart. The zipper pull snapped off and one of the strap clips bent out of shape, leaving it useless, and we were down one strap for the trip. Even before that, the strap was uncomfortable to use in "backpack mode". You need to be careful how you attach the straps because it's the difference between an uncomfortable bag and an unbearable one with the strap clips digging into the base of your neck. I can't believe how Diono charges $50 for this bag. I love our Radian RXT car seats, but a summer student would have come up with a better design over a lunch break. Design is not even an afterthought on this product. Did no one at Diono try it before putting it on the market? Super disappointed in this purchase. I would have been better off using a plastic bag if I knew that it was going to be single-use.

Overpriced and underbuilt

This bag is designed for travelling with a 30+ lbs car seat, unfortunately the fabric is extremely thin and will tear through with VERY light abrasion along pavement (remember, 30+ lbs), not to mention all seams are only single stitched. It's not like no knows how to design a bag to carry something heavy and awkward.

In case you might be wondering, I did gate checked the car seat and the bag was still torn, likely due to it being placed on the ground in a sliding motion by the baggage handler.

Can be worn as a backpack very easily, so that's nice. Aside from that, expect this thing to get damaged easily.

My cover did get some holes in it with use but I think that is more due to how rough the airlines are as opposed to the quality of the product as the cover feels thick and sturdy. There is also enough space to fit accessories such as a mirror to see your child which is handy. The pocket is also great for putting the additional tethers in so nothing gets lost

Not a great experience

I loved the concept of this carry bag, unfortunately by the end of one of our two flights the bad had holes in and one of the shoulder straps had nearly broken off from the walk from the airport carpark to the terminal. The construction is just not strong enough to cope with the weight of these car seats. Despite this the car seat make it to the destination and back unharmed. We returned for a refund with no issues due to the damage and dissatisfaction with construction.

Though minor exterior scratches are to be expected, I would no recommend this product, as it risks not protecting a car seat, and I am note sure we can use it without patching it.
